  1. I've loved Harrell since first hearing him on "Silver'n'Brass" w/Bob Berg. I've always picked up each release as soon as I became aware of it, and I will continue to do so. He's been struggling with the chops a bit as of late, but he's still writing great creative tunes. He's written many tunes that should enter the "standard repertoire". Little Dancer, Sail Away, April Mist et al.
  2. Thanks B! Maybe a chart on Perdido featuring a sax soli harmonization of a Flip solo........
  3. Blue Mitchell! I did not know that. I'm feeling an arrangement of Fungii Mama coming on! Thanks Chas!
  4. Damn those refs, Conn! I smell a conn-spiracy!!!
  5. I just learned that the Adderley brothers were actually born in Tampa, but they're both buried here in Tallahassee.
  6. I know Cannonball did. Did Nat also teach?
  7. Sorry I can't be of any help, Bruce, but I just wanted to send you best wishes for a speedy recovery and a long and healthy life.
  8. Hey all, I'm in the process of applying for a summer grant that FSU offers to first year faculty members. For my project proposal I was thinking about writing some new arrangements for big band (possibly a future recording project), and choosing tunes by musicians associated w/Florida, who were either from here (like Cannonball) or spent a lot of time here (like Sam Rivers, who I believe was actually born in Oklahoma). Those two alone provide lots of possibilities. Some others who have come to mind: Jaco Eddie Higgins Ira Sullivan (I know Ira primarily as a player, I'm not aware if he's written many tunes) I'm sure there are many who I'm not thinking of. Did GoM ever do a show on this topic? I was hoping that you folks might have some suggestions. Dan maybe? Thanks, I appreciate your help!
  9. "No, the extra large stuffed crust. With sausage and pepperoni. And a diet Coke."
  10. Hope both of you have a very Happy Birthday!
  11. Good game, very exciting. Lower scoring than I expected. Both QBs had a mediocre game, but Brady came through at crunch time. Man, Addai played his ass off! I expect these teams will meet again. That will be interesting I'll bet Conn's a happy fella!
  12. Actually, Roll Call is a Mobley composition.
  13. Once after a very long (like 40+ hours) trip home from Hong Kong I crashed at a friend's apartment and got up in the middle of the night to pee, and woke up realizing I was peeing on his ironing board. I cleaned it up and never 'fessed up.

  18. I must say I do love Will Ferrell's Goulet routines.
  19. This is a great session, on the Artists House label. I only have it on LP, I'd love to see it out on disc. Yes, this was the same group that recorded "Merge".
  20. If you can find it, Jack Wilkins' "You Can't Live Without It" has both Breckers playing on standards in an acoustic setting. I think it's been out on CD combined with another nice Wilkins session featuring Randy called "Merge". ....oh, and welcome to the forum, btown!
