  1. Nothing a little penicillin won't take care of.
  2. Looks like most of the best sides have been mentioned already. I'm loving GregM's idea of issuing Conversation as a Mosaic single. Might be time to start a campaign. Also another vote for his fine playing on Stitt's I Remember Bird. An overlooked side to be sure. There is also a recording of Frank w/the Metropole Orchestra that had a limited release called "Fond Memories of...". It came with a book of transcriptions of Frank's solos from the recording. Great stuff if you can find it. He plays a long solo on All The Things You Are that's pretty amazing. And of course his Jazz Scene USA segment is one of the best of that series IMHO. Great to see all the love for Frank. EDIT: I just thought of a couple more noteworthy Rosolino sideman appearances- on Frank Strazzeri's A View From Within and Don Menza's First Flight. Also Buddy Collette's Jazz Loves Paris.
  3. Farewell dancerchick310, we hardly knew ye. Except of course that you're big on relaxing.
  4. I caught part of the fourth quarter. I feel your pain; I can't even bring myself to make a smart-ass comment. ...........just yet.
  5. Funny and relevant.
  6. Great news Chuck! And yes, marcello, I've also been waiting for Conversation to come out on CD. There are several alternate takes, additional tunes and extended versions that would make a nice length CD. Keep hope alive! I'll post on some other favorite Frank sides when I get a chance- gotta run!
  7. 30% off purchase of $10 or more (through 9/23)
  8. "Mr. Simpson cannot leave the country and had to surrender his passport."

  10. "But I don't WANNA be a pirate!!"
  11. Sort of on topic, at the end of Woody Herman's Apple Honey (depending on what version you have) the trumpet section plays a quote from Petroushka.
  12. Seems the only way you're going to get any deals at Borders is to get the Rewards card, so unless you plan to boycott them entirely it seems like a necessity, especially since they are one of the few places to carry even a minimal jazz selection. And from time to time there are some pretty good deals. The "invasive" aspect has not been a problem at all for me.
  13. George Shearing Dick Shearer George Lamb
  14. A nice version of Love For Sale was also a product of that session (this was just discussed on another thread). Here's a scan of the cover I found online, although the one I remember was different.
  15. .........and that's some big time wallerin'!
  16. I think part of the reason Borders started that whole rewards program was to monitor coupon use- it (in theory) prevents one from using the coupons over and over (although I've done that a few times w/no hassle). The drag is that you have to join to even use a coupon ONCE now. As I've said before, the only time I buy anything at Borders is when I have a good coupon- otherwise you end up paying FULL RETAIL! I usually can do much better online. I'd rather support a local business, but when there's such a big difference in price it's hard to justify that.
  17. How happy she must be that this is how she will forever be known!
  18. Rosanne Barr Hank Marr Jamie Farr
  19. Amazing pictures! The clarity and detail is stunning. It does make one a bit woozy. I wonder if anyone ever yaks in their helmet? Do they have a little windshield wiper on the inside?
  20. Mo, I haven't heard that one yet. I have the Miles/Coltrane box, but haven't gotten to that disc yet. Do you like it? Absolutely!! The whole cut, the whole album(BASIC MILES, on vinyl), Trane really shines on Green Dolphin St.; it still blows me away after all these years. This recording is what got me into Trane. The only "reason" for asking was I was wondering if you didn't think Blue Train was particularly outstanding, if you thought Green Dolphin St. was. No biggie, just curiosity. That 5/26/58 session also produced great versions of Stella by Starlight, Fran Dance (2 takes) and Love For Sale. All stone classics! I've often mentioned that one of my favorite moments on record is the second chorus on Stella where Trane takes over and the rhythm section starts walking. Still gives me chills.
  21. You're not alone, felser. I've always liked The Prisoner too, but I can see where it might not be for everyone. I've always liked that little Herbie trifecta that included Speak Like A Child, Prisoner and Fat Albert Rotunda. Different music each, but with a similar concept IMHO.
