  1. She's very attractive Lon. Now I have Phoenix envy.
  2. Thanks for posting those covers, SS. They all look very nice (in spite of the extremely lame title for the Ervin). These are all on my must-have list.
  3. Apparently this particular activity.... ......produced a large quantity of something...... .....although one would think grape-stomping might produce something a little more......well, grape colored.
  4. In "Sinatra Park", no less. Think there will be a "concrete overshoes" three-legged race? Or maybe how many people can fit in the trunk of a Caddy? Bobbing for cannoli? OK, I apologize for this post. Couldn't help myself. I'm sure the event will be great. Parking, however, will be murder. -Paulie
  5. Don't worry, you won't regret it. Philly Joe brought something to the table different than many of the drummers who played with Bill. He apparently lit some kind of fire, because when anyone pulls out that tired line that "Evans didn't swing" I usually direct them to something with Philly Joe. I love the LaFaro/Motian stuff, no question about that, but there's a different Bill that surfaces when PJJ is at the helm IMHO. This is a definite HELL YEAH!
  6. I couldn't look. I have a fear of lists.
  7. They're saying that there are as many as 10,000 "holdouts", i.e. people who refuse to leave. I'm thinking that there may be big problems getting these last people out. These people have been "holed up" in what's left of their homes for a week, probably in a fairly defensive posture, and are probably a little "off-center" at this point. Who wouldn't be? I sure wouldn't want to be the one walking up to their door to force them to leave. I hope this doesn't result in unnecessary deaths/injuries.
  8. That's great news!
  9. What's the word on these, Jim (....or anyone)?
  10. Happy birthday to one of the all-time greats! I can see the resemblance.....
  11. Excellent work, Joe!
  12. ← Thanks for posting that. How absolutely awful!
  13. Can you imagine how profoundly filthy and nasty that water is? What are they going to do with it? Will they treat it somehow? I hope it doesn't just go back into the gulf.
  14. RIP, little buddy.
  15. Unless of course it was because you were playing high notes on the trumpet. While stoned.
  16. Congrats and the best of luck and happiness to you both Paul! Let's see.....all those drums AND a wife.......looks like you'll be needing one of these....
  17. I haven't flipped over everything she's done, but this is one of my desert island picks for sure. She was so influenced by Dinah Washington. I was fortunate enough to play behind her in a big band on several occasions. One of the coolest things about that was that the drummer was the fabulous Roy McCurdy- not at all known as a big band type of drummer, but he was really great. She pumped a lot of feeling into songs like "Guess Who I Saw Today", which she has performed many, many times. I'm impressed by her musicianship- she exhibits good control and sings in tune, and is not given to unnecessary scatting, which is usually a turn-off for me.
  18. I like it. I like paintings with texture like that. I'm also a sucker for Impressionism. I'm certainly no art expert, but I've been to a lot of art museums and I know where my interests lie. I also try to maintain an open mind to appreciate new things. Just like in music! "Untrained eye"? I doubt that. I don't think it's a requirement that you be an expert in art to make an informed decision as to what you like. If you like it, then it's good. Others may not like it, that's cool. How "good" it is is a very subjective thing. I like paintings where you can get close and study the technique (texture, brush strokes, color use, etc.) of the artist and then back away and see the finished "vision" come into focus. Monet and Van Gogh are both that way for me. Hey, here's a great one.....I love the dog that's cheating..........
  19. Hope you have a very happy birthday Sidewinder! :rsmile: :rsly: :rsmile: :rsly: :rsmile: :rsly:
