Thanks guys. Yes, this is Mike Raynor on drums...I seem to recall Mike Allemana on guitar, Matt Ferguson on bass and Ron Perillo on piano.

Thanks for the info Mark. I haven't seen Perillo for ages!
Also, I meant to say thanks for posting the great photos. Your work is always great!
Yes, I traded it back to the record exchange I bought it from. I think I was expecting Blue Note recording quality.
Lee's chops sound pretty ragged and the piano sounds like crap. Not the fireworks one would have hoped for with Lee & Freddie, but there are a few moments here and there.
One interesting thing about the Batman theme is the way Hefti had the top two voices a whole step apart, on the root and seventh of the chord. Usually the top and second voice parts are at least a third apart, but Hefti's use of this more dissonant close position makes for an interesting sonority and one that contributes to the "vibe" of the tune.
IMHBO.*
*(in my humble Bat-opinion)
What about the intro riff/vamp? And isn't "Bag's Groove" in the minor and "Odd Couple" major? Certainly the former was the model for the latter, but the feel is different, no?
Both are minor keyed themes, although on some recordings the blowing changes for Bag's Groove are dominant chords instead of minor. The grooves for the two are also both within the swing genre, but I think the opening/returning vamp of the Odd Couple theme is definitely the "hook" of that tune.
And the melodies are definitely similar but not identical.....IMHO. At least that's the way I hear it, Allen.
And thank you, Neal Hefti. Playing The Good Earth on Woody's band was always big fun. RIP
EDIT: I also love Clifford w/strings, especially Portrait of Jenny.
Similar but not lawsuit-worthy IMHO.
"Repetition" from Bird w/strings is a great tune, fun to play. Frank Tiberi did an arrangement of it for Woody's band, never recorded though.
Come up this weekend for the fall colours.. They're starting to happen and this year they are spectacular!
I sure could use a dose of northern fall weather. I miss all the fall colors, none of that down here in sweaty-land.
Was surprised by that call too.
I was too, but then the commentators explained that by rule in order for it to be an interception the player needs to maintain control of the ball even after hitting the ground.
I made popovers for breakfast. I haven't had those in ages.
They're really easy, you just need a special popover pan. I put strawberry-peach preserves on mine. One of these days I might attempt a Yorkshire pudding.
Very tasty!
.....without divulging too much personal information, of course.
I currently have money in the stock market and through work I'm investing in a retirement fund (the latter fairly aggressively, since I've started fairly late in my career).
I've spoken with my stock/retirement guys and they confirmed what I believe, which is to not panic and start moving things around. They said if I was going to be retiring within the next five or so years I might want to make changes, but since that's not the case the best solution for now is to sit tight and not freak out.
I'm very fortunate to have a full time teaching job, but if things get bad enough I don't necessarily feel a high level of security (I'm only in my second year, so I don't have tenure yet). I think things will have to get pretty bad before the college starts laying off full-time faculty, but nothing surprises me anymore. I keep my credit cards paid off and am not buying a house right now, but I am making car payments (I lease my car).
It's scary, I tell ya! I hope for the best for everyone!
