  1. I'm kind of curious as to how this whole Hurricane Ike thing is going to play out.
  2. I tried that approach ....nada, zip, zilch, dead parrot ..... Hi Phil! Nice to see you! I've been enjoying "My Museum". Next project on deck?
  3. I wonder about them all the time. What's their deal, anyway?
  4. So right at the time when I was going to start grilling the skies opened up. One of those storms that just hovered in one place, right over my crib. Sometimes I really fucking hate living in Florida- I often wonder if this is where I'm going to "end up". Rain, rain, rain. I wish the rain would go to where it's needed, up on Berigan's head. :rsmile: Finally it blew over and I was able to grill the meat and veggies. Very tasty, although about 3 hours later than planned. Medium rare skirt steak, carmelized veggies, yum!
  5. Fascinating stuff- thanks for sharing it, guys!
  6. Sounds good. Makes me sorry I didn't go a smiliar route today. Nonetheless, I will be grilling some king crab legs, split and brushed with a little olive oil, garlic, and butter. Damn, that sounds good too!
  7. Just picked up some really nice skirt steak. It's now marinating in lime juice, olive oil, soy sauce, red pepper, cumin, brown sugar, ancho chili powder, chipotle peppers and cllantro. In a couple hours I'll throw it on the grill along with some onion and green pepper and put it on a tortilla with a little sour cream, mango salsa and cilantro (along with an ice cold beer). It's been awhile since I had time to do a Saturday grill project.
  8. Apparently a reissue of this: One of the more curious Messengers bands, although I have to agree that Mangione was a pretty decent hard bopper before he went in his "smoother" direction.
  9. Hollywood is in CALIFORNIA.
  10. Picked this up today with a Border's coupon. Still some goodies to be found......
  11. This is the Kowalski I first thought of.
  12. No, and my figure's less than Greek............
  13. Very sad to hear of his passing. He was an amazing player- he added so much spirit and taste to the many sessions in which he participated. "Hyperfluent" -what a great way to describe his playing, Sangrey! I had the opportunity to meet and hang with him at a trombone conference in the early 80s. We went out to dinner- what a kind and generous person he was to spend so much time with a young novice like me! I always will remember that hang fondly. I wish he had continued to record later in his life, but I'm glad there is so much great music by Jimmy Cleveland to enjoy. Truly distinctive and unique voices don't come along all that often, and he was one of a kind. And it's heartening to read that he was appreciated by so many here. Rest in Peace
  14. Wow, tomorrow is the third anniversary of Katrina and the people of New Orleans will be spending it preparing for the possible/probable assault of Gustav. I sure hope it doesn't happen, because it sounds like they're not ready. I don't know if there's anything anyone can do to be ready to deal with a force of nature like this. Good luck to all those folks.
  15. Definitely. I don't even mind the sound of Miles' saliva gurgling around in the horn. Although now that I read that I'm a little nauseous.
  16. Happy 50th Birthday! Now you must prepare yourself for the onslaught of propaganda from AARP.
  17. I loves me some cold Leini's! Matter of fact, I'd like one right now (hey, it's almost noon).
  18. Looks like a weapon!
  19. Sounds great! Sign me up! Should I change my will to cover any "unexpected costs" you might incur?
  20. Still MF raining. Reminds me of- wasn't it a Ray Bradbury story?- the planet with the constant rain.
  21. I was (and still am) a big WH fan. He was one of the first guys I checked out, and I played in a group in high school that played a bunch of Crusaders tunes. Wayne was a big time disciple of JJ (as most trombonists are) and had that big, fat sound that drew me in. I still listen to the Crusaders now and then. WH is a soulful MF!
  22. Trombone and tenor, trombone and bari, trombone and alto flute- three of my favorite combinations.
  23. Cain't play no trambone in no closet. No room for the GD slide.
