  7. Unfortunately not. Was on the other side of the Mediterranean where I did my best to counter the government's project of keeping Algeria French. I remember trying to listen to the broadcast a few days later on the Europe 1 radio station but the sound signal (longwave AM) was pretty bad!
  8. I don't have the new release. I have a CDR which was provided by a friend at O. Don't think I'll purchase the new one unless the sound on the bass and drums is improved. Proeminent to the point of being obtrusive on what I have. Great blowing date in any case!
  9. For the sake of accuracy, this is what the cover of the original 2CD set looked like when it was released back in 1992 on the Trema-Europe 1 label Cover and liner notes: http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=1873445 Volume 3 was released in 1999.
  10. Had the original release of this session (on Sonet) until I sold my vinyl collection more than a year ago, there was no mystery about the recording location on its front cover
  11. LD is on alto all the way on this!
  12. Back in 2002/2003 RCA France reissued the full output of the Ferguson Birdland Dream Band on two CDs: Volume 1 had nine alternate takes, volume 2 had five alternate takes.
  13. From a Blue Note story on Business Wire this week: For Record Store Day in April, Blue Note will also reissue the label’s first two releases as limited edition 12” vinyl: Meade “Lux” Lewis “Melancholy”/”Solitude” (BN1) and Albert Ammons “Boogie Woogie Stomp”/”Boogie Woogie Blues” (BN2). 14. Awesome series of photos! The only problem I have with some of them is the captioning. The Erroll Garner images are said to be dated from 1947. I am sure they were taken a decade later. Photo nr. 5 shows Garner in a Paris club. The place is the Club Saint-Germain and the musicians include Barney Wilen who was a pretty mature seven-year old by then.
  15. My all-time champion is Cecil Taylor. Saw him at dozens of appearances between 1965 and 1980 in France, Holland and the US. Jimmy Lyons and Andrew Cyrille are in a tight group right behind him (some of CT's appearances I attended were solo performances).
  16. It had to be a Very Happy Birthday !!!
  17. I purchased the Galaxy albums when they came out (and enjoyed many of them) but the one I really loved was the Xanadu CD 'Keystones!) that Leroy Vinnegar privately taped when he, Red and Philly Joe Jones played at the Keystone Korner in 1977. Sound is not really great but the music is!
  18. Fresh Sound is releasing a 11-CD set 'The Keynote Jazz Collection' http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/the_keynote_jazz_collection_1941-1947_11-cd_box_set-cd-6062.html
  19. The CD version (6 CDs) looked like this:
  20. Those BIEM stamps showed up in France on quite a number of vinyl imports from various labels (BN, Riverside, Contemporary among others) throughout the 60s and 70s. They adorned the labels or the album back covers!
  21. Cecil Taylor - he is the one at right - and recipients of the 2013 Kyoto Prize hold their diplomas and medals after receiving the 2013 Kyoto Prize this week in Kyoto. Other laureates are Dr. Robert Dennard, at left, and Dr. Masatoshi Nei.
