  1. Wayne Shorter will be playing with Herbie Hancock and Marcus Miller in a Tribute to Miles program. Dates I have seen include: July 9, Perugia, Italy July 15, Juan les Pins, France July 16, Vitoria, Spain July 18, Olympia, Paris They also play at the Vienne, France, festival in July (date to be announced later).
  2. The Lord Discography books each carry an introduction which concludes with a list of contributors and the following paragraph: My Apologies to anyone I mau have overlooked. And, of course a deep bow to general discographers who have come before : Hilton Schleman, Charles Delaunay, Brian Rust, Jorgen Jepsen, Walter Bruyninckx and Erik Raben
  3. Bud Shank 'That Old Feeling' (Contemporary)
  4. Wonder if there will be any new material in the Lunceford set. I have had the Decca sides for decades and am happy with the Masters of Jazz CDs. Wonderful stuff.
  5. That's odd. And a shame! It's one of Shank's best album from the '80S!
  6. Chet Baker 'At Capolinea' Red Records)
  7. More reminiscences (along with Benny Golson) in a New York Daily News interview today.
  8. we share (or try to share) your concern. Really hope to see you and your posts back here when things return to normal!
  9. Happy Birthday
  10. Just checked on their tracks lists when they came out. Can't remember any of the reissues adding anything really new to the original Masters of Jazz releases. They're all compilations from material included in the single CDs. The only one I purchased was the Cabu Prez clarinet double CD. Thought it was a neat idea. Love it!
  11. Lee Konitz 'Duets' (Milestone, stereo)
  12. The right thing to do... From SIlive Chuck Wayne
  13. The Lee Morgan Sextet LP went up to $2,602!!! And another Lee Morgan Candy reached $1,915!!!
  14. Something quite wrong with that entry on amazon! The cover fits the "boxed" reissues of Masters of Jazz (mostly I think they just threw in three discs, but I haven't got any of them or even had a closer look at any, but some of them turned up in stores here last year). You can see the "Masters of Jazz / Média 7" logo on the bottom left. The tracklist with 12 titles has to be wrong for a 2CD set. The ones I've seen look like this though: http://www.amazon.fr/Masters-Jazz-Lester-Young/dp/B002TMLRCW/ref=sr_1_3?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1300062438&sr=1-3 That one is a 3CD reissue that came out a couple of years ago (a release from the Masters of Jazz series). The other one (an earlier item): was a 2CD reissue, also from the Masters of Jazz series.
  15. George Braith 'Laughing Soul' (Prestige, stereo, blue label)
  16. I mentioned the Cabu Lester Young clarinet set on the Lester Young Corner thread (#187) when it was released last year. Excellent - and perfectly legitimate to us Europeans - double CD!
  17. A great drummer goes away... NPR Obituary
  18. Jabbo Smith 'The Ace of Rhythm 1929' (MCA)
