  1. Was that the Direct-To-Disk LP? (Sheffield Labs maybe?) Will have to seek it out. It was on the Umbrella label, a division of Nimbus 9 Productions, Toronto. Pressed on heavy vinyl and individually numbered!
  2. The Olympia concert lasted some five hours. Fans from the Middle East flew in to Paris for her appearance. I had never seen before such a passionate relationship between performer and audience. And never saw anything approaching that since. I also remember quite a number of North Africa-born jewish fans attending the concert and sharing the fervor! Bought several LPs of her afterwards but they failed to capture the magic!
  3. Sorry to hear this. Greatly enjoyed his superbly recorded Big Band Jazz double LP!
  4. The Dave McKenna Trio 'Plays the Music of Harry Warren' (Concord) with Bob Maize and Jake Hanna
  5. Dan when it's 11PM in France, it is 5PM on the East Coast!
  6. Amazing! Already mentioned somewhere else on this board several years ago that I became an Oum Kalthoum convert when I attended her concert at the Paris Olympia back in 1967. It was the only concert she gave in a non-arab country. I was there to take photos but was overwhelmed by her performance after a few songs, put aside my cameras and just dug her singing!
  7. You will be able to hear the concert here... The Butch Warren concert is listed at the bottom of the page!

The video is preserved in the collection of La Maison du Jazz in Liège (Thomas and Jaspar's hometown).
  9. Won't be there either since I'll be out of Paris for most of May. However will not miss the broadcast (on France Musique) on June 12 (at 11PM local time) of the concert Warren and his quintet are giving at the Maison de la Radio in Paris on May 22!
  10. Stan Getz/Kenny Barron 'People Time', disc 4 and 5
  11. A very Happy Birthday
  12. Butch Warren will give a series of concerts in France in May. He will be playing at Angers on May 18 and at the Duc des Lombards club in Paris on May 19. Other dates are scheduled. He will lead his French 5tet (with Pierre Menuau on tenor, Pierre Christophe on piano, Jean-Philippe Bordier on guitar and Mourad Benhammou on drums. This will be his first visit to France in 45 years!

Many thanks for linking this very rare clip. Obviously from the Belgian TV 'Jazz pour tous' show from January 1962 with Bobby Jaspar, Amedeo Tommasi on piano, Benoit Quersin on bass and Daniel Humair on drums. Can't get enough of Thomas and Jaspar!
  14. Herb Ellis & Stuff Smith 'Together' (Epic, mono) with Bob Enevoldsen, Lou Levy, Al McKibbon and Shelly Manne
  15. If you were wondering what Michael Henderson was up these days... from PR Inside!
  16. Ben Webster 'Blue Light' (Polydor International, mono) with Kenny Drew, NHOP, Alex Riel and the Arnved Meyer band.
  17. recently added to Youtube... Thelonious Monk quartet with Charlie Rouse, Larry Gales and Ben Riley appearing on BBC Jazz 625 (MC Humphrey Lyttleton) from London's Marquee Club in March 1965: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
  18. Really? I've been groovin' along to it far more than I thought I would. A 'sleeper' of a Mosaic IMO - pleasant suprise. Although maybe not one to play back to back all 3 disks (unless it's a choice between that and the entire FF Set ! ). I was not in the right mood for this when I started listening to it. Got better when I jumped to disc 2 and getting even better now that I am listening to disc 3!
  19. ... and it's going to be an Bayern-Inter final. Inter Milan managed to defuse the Barca game and lose by 0-1 only! I don't expect much of the final match which will probably turn out to be a bore!
  20. Very nice!
  21. Zoot Sims 'For Lady Day' (Pablo)
  22. Most probably this concert: Miles Davis in Stockholm
