  1. Would not want to play that Dave Clark vinyl! The cat who's handling this is too careless! Too many scratches
  2. Will also be looking forward to that Red Garland at the Prelude material. The Japanese set had 3CD and 23 tracks. Hope the US release will have all the material. The steep cost of the Japanese import had me passing that one. The Japanese set

  6. Shorty Rogers 'Chances Are It Swings' (RCA, For Jazz Buffs) featuring The Giants
  7. While waiting for the proper Authorities to release the Cellar Door box, has anybody heard this 3CD set which came out this week? Miles Davis in Munich This is being issued by the Dutch label Blaricum which already released the same 1988 Munich concert in video Price looks good for a 3CD set but is this just another gig from the 1988 Miles concert tours?
  8. Awesome player, Roberto Baggio. He was superb at the 1994 and 1998 World Cups. Too bad he is mostly remembered for that missed penalty in the LA final! Same thing happened to other giants, including Michel Platini or Diego Maradonna. Brad, France played two friendly international matches this month to prepare for the World Cup. Barthez was the goalie for the first match - against Costa Rica. Barthez conceded two goals, one of them totally his fault. France won 3-2 in the end! Coupet was the goalie for the second match - against Germany. Final score was 0-0 thanks partly to brillant saves from Coupet! And coach Domenech is still to make up his mind on who's going to be in the French goalmouth in Germany
  9. Yes, the Ballon d'Or award is very much 'forward-oriented'. That's obviously because the forwards get most of the attention. In fifty years, only one goalkeeper was honored: Lev Yachin! The juries could not have survived if they did leave Yashin out...
  10. That gave me a smile, having an almost Biblical tone, much like the sections in the Bible which talk about leprosy. Patricia, let's keep religion and the Bible out of this thread

  12. It's distorsion free, indeed Just checked...
  13. You're starting to sound like a true Frenchman, P.L.M. No problem at all with Zidane. I have admired him from way back and fondly remember those great moments of the 1998 World Cup. Been a great fan of him all along. Just that I really am afraid that by 2006 he will not be any longer the magnificient player he was. Everybody gets old and past one's glory days. True, his goal yesterday with Real Madrid shows he still can play. I also think that the French national team can do without him by now. That would leave a chance for other valuable players to show their skills!
  14. Brazil's Ronaldinho was named football player of the year and was awarded the Ballon d'Or (Golden Ball) trophy in Paris this evening. It was the 5Oth time the Ballon d'Or had been awarded. Most of the former laureates were on hand for the award ceremony. Quite an imposing assemblage of soccer greats from Di Stefano to Zidane with Paolo Rossi, Beckenbauer, Kopa, Matthaus, Cruyff, Eusebio, Platini, Ronaldo and others. The FC Barcelona midfielder was expected to win the trophy. Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard came second with Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard placing third. Ronaldinho is an amazing player who is a joy to watch in action. The Brazilian team with Ronaldinho will be hard to beat at the World Cup next year!

  20. Zidane has been a tremendous player but he is past his prime now, with only flashes of his former brillance. By World Cup time he will be just about finished! There is no point in having him as the star player of the French team in Germany. Luckily there is an ambundance of good forwards now, starting with Thierry Henry plus the reappearance of Nicolas Anelka. David Trezeguet, Djibril Cisse and several others are waiting in the wings. AND the new star player of the French soccer season Franck Ribery! (PLM, I'm sure you read French These players would make a superb team.
  21. Complaining is one of the sports French excel at! And one of the very few sports I have taken part in. Not sure here how the French team will fare but there are reasons to worry about coach Raymond Domenech who is never able to take the right decisions at the right time. He fiddles and hesitates much too much. Domenech has yet to decide who will be the main goalkeeper at the 2006 World Cup when the obvious choice is the brilliant Gregory Coupet. Domenech still seems to be stuck on the once brilliant Fabien Barthez. Barthez - along with Zidane - should be removed from the team to make room for younger players! It's still a long way to the World Cup. Hope everything will fall into places by then. But I have my doubts
  22. Vic Dickenson 'The Vic Dickenson Showcase, vol. 2' (Vanguard, mono) with Shad Collins, Ruby Braff, Edmond Hall, Sir Charles Thompson, Steve Jordan, Walter Page, Jo Jones
  23. Alfred, I was just being playful Truth is I avoid cleaning new vinyl or old vinyl that are or remained clean. I am fortunate in having a lot of those. As for unclean vinyls (I also have many of those), I usually clean them by using demineralised water and carefully cleaning the surfaces with an unsoiled smooth cloth. This works most of the time even if the clicks remain. A Nobel Prize should go to the person who invents the right declicking machine!
  24. My cassette player gave up last year and has not been replaced. I have used the cassette player from my car audio equipment to listen to tapes. But I'll be getting a new car soon and it won't have cassette-playing facilities. I have about 40 cassette tapes that I used to record off the radio, including rare concerts by Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Gil Evans, etc... No way I am going to get rid of them. I'll probably have to get a decent tape player to listen and enjoy them!
