  3. Bill, the Birdland Stars date is listed as February 1955 in the Sheridan Basie bio-discography. No precise date. The tour started on February 11, writes Sheridan. The Jamal Alhambra recordings too place in July 1961, says The Lord. No firm date for the Jimmy Smith soundtrack. 1965 it was.

  6. The Candid Dolphy CD has take 3 of 'T' Ain't Nobody's Business if I do' (7:42) which is a different take from the Candid Newport Rebels original (7:11). The Mingus Candid CD (Reincarnation of a Love Bird) has a different take (take 4) of 'Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams' (3:55) that is different from the Candid LP (3:47).

  10. It's a small world. I've got a pretty good idea who bought that Barney Wilen poster. That poster in red and black is typical of Charles Delauney's design work for the Vogue label at the time. Delauney was one of Vogue's top manager then.
  11. In the photos on the opening post, the two guys with Jimi are bassist Noel Redding (the one with glasses) and drummer Mitch Mitchell. The Jimi Hendrix Experience people having fun!. Hendrix was COOL on stage too! Saw them a couple of times when they performed at the Paris Olympia in 1967!

  21. This was a pretty big hit in France back in those days. Don Wilkerson's 'Camp meeting' was the opening tune for the widely popular 'Pour Ceux Qui Aiment le Jazz' (For Those who Like Jazz) radio show on Europe 1 radio in the early '60s. Copies of this 45 show up off and on around here.
