  1. Wait, what??? Records by Mail IS discogs? How the hell did I not know this, and what is the implication? He doesn't say discogs was hacked, that his mail-order house was. I order thru discogs though usually utilizing paypal way more often than I've ever used RBM, and if my info was on their server, and they actually did reach acct #s, I am practically certain that info was at least one updated card ago. I really want to know now what company was hacked.
  2. I've no doubt that this Shipley place is awesome ... I am not comparing artisan donuts to either Dunkin or Krispy Kreme. I am just comparing national chain options and I'll always go Dunkin' over KK for donuts and Dunkin' over Starbucks for coffee. That Starbucks shit is so bitter and nasty, their incredible success is utterly beyond me.
  3. This is what I was thinking ... thanks Allen.
  4. I completely forgot that he had those postseason problems ... and honestly - don't know where my head is at - but I initially said "2017? That was a five game series won by the Sox."
  5. Been a very long time on seeing the film and not sure I want to. I am interested, in a perverse way, in the up close and personal view of Bird the man and it actually interests me if the worst of Bird in the movie had Chan as the source? Again, long time since I saw the movie when it was released. I mostly use my own ears for Bird's music. (though I remain interested in Stanley's first volume bio of Bird which I imagine has more music discussion (plus trains!))
  6. I believe I saw 35 but he might be 36 before or during the 2021 season.
  7. Now that I cannot imagine, especially when the major competition (outside of all those ridiculous artisan coffee shops in every "hip" city in the country) is Starbucks which is the single nastiest, most bitter and horrifyingly bad "coffee" in the world. but your mileage may very well vary.
  8. So I sprang for this from a Christmas Amazon gift card and now Amazon is pimping Chan's book by the same title. This is a must-have, isn't it? I honestly didn't know about her book and you'd think I'd heard about it when published 20 years ago. I don't really need too much encouragement but curious what people think of it. And anyway since its the same name as Phil's book I am not really changing the threat topic at all, right?
  9. Actually, I consider the no-substance element to be intrinsic to "fresh and hot" - then is when it disappears in your mouth. When congealed and not hot or quite so fresh, they are more substantial empty greasy sugar bombs.
  10. He's been almost absolute lights-out since mid-2019 thru this season's strangeness. I think he's really special right now, just waiting to find out that the catcher needs to have 11 signs to flash, not 10. And I do believe that the dimensions of San Diego will help him out on giving up long balls compared to Wrigley. I feel bad for the guy he seemed so happy to be in Chicago but he probably gets in the swing of things pitching for a serious contender.
  11. I never encountered Krispy Kreme until I arrived at Florida State in 1983. To me, donuts were Dunkin' and they remain that way though I very rarely partake, especially working from home for almost all of the last five years - no donuts brought in by reps of various companies. I know Dunkin Donuts have their detractors. To me KK donuts are just greasy sugar bombs with no substance. Y'all (and I am pretty sure in 1983 this was a southern thing) can have 'em.
  12. That's the beauty of our plentitude of cover topics, you can look for one kind and find another.
  13. https://www.mlb.com/news/yu-darvish-trade-padres-cubs I don't at all mind that the Padres seem to be building a juggernaut to really take it to the defending world champions and I get that the Cubs are trying to rebuild for the long haul but it definitely sucks that they appear to be throwing in the towel on 2021 long before spring training. I am not looking forward to letting my 85 year old Mom know what happened ... now my question is, does this mean that they'll keep Kris Bryant in his walk year and hope that a bounce-back year means a still decent haul for whoever needs him as a rental mid-season? Or will he still be dangled to stockpile more hoped-for potential talent? If they send him off too they are truly sacrificing 2021. And that would suck. Who knows how many more seasons Mom will be around to watch?
  14. And here I am thinking she knew just what to do, took a photo of your Blue Note section, upload, easy peasy, blanket arrives ten days later. Very neat I have to say. The designer has good taste.
  15. I think it's a great project and you should keep the board informed as often as you feel necessary. While your project is obviously much narrower than Hutch's year-long blog has been, it should still spark considerable discussion here and probably more than that created at the site itself. Hope its a very satisfying and enjoyable process for you.
  16. So what's the company that takes such pictures and makes blankets out of them? Or did she weave it herself, which I am going to go ahead and say ... too hard to do.
  17. I always enjoy these annual columns but what would Barry do with a year like 2020? Enjoy: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/12/27/magazine/dave-barrys-year-review-2020-what-can-we-say/?et_rid=1847787000&s_campaign=globemag:newsletter (I submitted an email address to see this - no other registration necessary.)
  18. I'll go down with the ship before I give up this place.
  19. "No reason" is bullshit. There are obvious reasons: Get the fuck away from me (too close) Keep that shit out of here (getting too close)
  20. MG in da house! A very nice Christmas surprise. Hope you can stick around, especially since I've got a primo BFT set to go New Year's Day. Merry Christmas to all.
  21. Well, Merry Christmas to me. I was motivated to look for the 45 since those are full recordings of two tunes, sans VO, and I snagged what sounds like a very good condition copy, though without the nice cover seen here: https://www.discogs.com/Benny-Golson-Art-Blakey-The-Jazz-Messengers-Crazy-Driving-Blues/release/6559247
  22. There's a Methodist Church thing? Oh, that's the drunk driving thing right? Here's another page with it https://phillyjazz.us/tag/art-blakey/
  23. I'll challenge @CJ Shearn.
