  1. I was thinking too that incorporation of the old photos/current photos of jazz club locations that were put together somewhere on the interwebs would be a cool add-on.
  2. Looks interesting; not sure if the author is equipped to write well about jazz (seems more of a pop/rock guy but who knows) but the photos available on amazon have me intrigued.
  3. Al Cohn on this too - surprised he wasn't listed on the cover.
  4. Maybe I should listen again, I think I had it when the Turrentine collaborations and Plain Talk were my favorite Smiths, who knows I might enjoy it a bit more now.
  5. Damn ... I never liked that record that much - and may not have listened ever since I got it in, probably, the early 2000s - but you must really love it.
  6. I went to bed with the game 1-0, and only saw the headlines this morning. It never even occurred to me that Cash wouldn't ride his ace as far as possible. So does this suggest that Grady Little would have managed Tampa to a win last night? What's extra stupid then is that he ignored the axiom that you have to win tonight, and didn't consider that if he rides Snell longer, he may have a better bullpen in place for Game 7.
  7. When did she decide to sell, before or after COVID? If business is down substantially due to prior COVID restrictions and she's making a lot less on a sale ... I don't know I might not give too much of a shit either.
  8. Excellent Cliff Jordan here. Great late 60s session when I don't think Jay was working as much (?). Anyway certainly his timeless style wasn't exacty 'current'.
  9. Heaven only knows but in terms of releasable tapes what are we talking about? I understood that a lot of the tapes had quality issues or were several generations removed (IIRC).
  10. Fact is I have two options with my software. I can make the recording longer, by a factor of 1.0595, or I can make the recording slower, and I appear to have three different calculated percentages for that option. I guess if I go slower, the percentage that duplicates the new timing at 1.0595 would be the right one. Place your bets! And thanks gents.
  11. Well slower speed lowers the pitch, so 15/16 = .9375 would work in terms of my audio software. You know I sent you the original and speed corrected for a different track. What do your ears say the correct pitch would be? The change I applied was more than a full step actually (.85) - Allen hears the corrected as in the key of B Flat and sounds right to him. I think its the nomenclature of my software. .9375 will make the recording longer, and lower the pitch.
  12. If its a blues in F but it sounds like F#, does a bear crap in the woods? No seriously, can you express the adjustment of F# to F on a percentage or ratio basis?
  13. That's my memory too but later, 80s I'd have to guess. My father worked at 5th Ave and 57th, later 6th Ave and 57th. I'd take the train in from CT and spend time just walking down 5th Ave and back to his office, hitting B&N, both Doubledays and Brentano's. Only later did I end up at the Strand some trips, and by that time a lot of my shopping was music @ HMV and Tower and the Jazz Record Center instead of books.
  14. I decided to jump the gun and start a running list of what, to date, I already own (or in some cases, know I owned at one time but ultimately sold). We must be right about 300 albums to date? I got 37. I do notice at least two Xanadus that I should go find and a couple of others too ... that would be another way for an "accounting" of your project: How many/which records were people motivated to take note and plan to search out because they didn't know about them or haven't pulled the trigger before?
  15. Damn rich people - they still screw people over even when they're married to one of the most liberal Senators in office.
  16. Anyone else thinking Nancy Wyden's money came from Daddy or grandpa? Just a guess ... Anyway I strongly suspect that they could ride this out as long as necessary but want to cash in on the goodwill of the mass of customers they've accumulated and in this day and age they can raise a ton of money with this kind of appeal. But its obvious to me this is far from the true mom and pop brick & mortar that is in bad shape and barely hanging on.
  17. It's not necessarily true that the book store isn't paying rent. The agency I used to work for purchased their office unit within the building when given the chance, which I could not comprehend because they were locked into the location at a time when there was talk of opening a new office in central Florida and eventually closing the one in Broward. How could they know if it would be easy to rent or sell when that time came? Then I found out that he bought the unit under a newly formed company so that he still had the rent cost to deduct on the business side, and was paying himself to rent space from himself.
  18. As to the first statement - yes, exactly. Your choices are yours alone but I'd be willing to wade thru and deliver a raw #. It establishes commonality of interests/enjoyment and also tell us who has extensive 70s holdings and who doesn't. I know that much - perhaps not all, but quite a bit - of the ones that I own are 70s recordings that don't fall into a "70s" vibe but could have been recorded earlier, like Black & Blue label recordings. Mr. Felser, on the other hand .... would make a different accounting.
  19. I think it would be interesting if, at the end of the year, people went back and just tallied up total number of selected recordings that they also own.
  20. I went to bed at 10 pm ET feeling that the Dodgers were in position and didn't even go looking for the final until I got an MLB email with today's headlines. Stunner I have to say, and LA fans must be feeling deja vu with Jansen being on the mound during an October loss. Still only 2-2 but you can't afford to lose games that are supposed to be locked down when the championship is on the line. Rays are going to be feeling loose tonight.
  21. Percy France w. Bob Neloms at the Flamingo Lounge, Brooklyn NY, March 30 1986. I can't really say more but its pretty darn good.
