George Coleman In Baltimore 1971 (Left Bank) out Nov 27/Dec 11

Thanks Eric. This last bit is most interesting ... the news about the Land set - wish I had time to look up the details of Land dates in those years right now ... the EA part makes me wonder how old Eric was at the time. Did his obvious Coleman-isms come because he was already into his playing or because they met thru Mabern? And last but certainly not least, its interesting to know that there were tapes that all the leaders (I assume) got a copy of. Two copies of all these cassettes are out there but none of the artists/estates have them anymore? If they could be found you might have better fidelity especially if some of these infamous 30 cassettes or so are actual later generations dubs. I always assumed that the organization recorded and those were the sole copies. -
Is there an actual reason to care other than some obscure obsessive "record collector" reason? Is one heavier, higher quality vinyl? Is it like RVG wax vs Liberty-era reissue? I've bought Liberty-era and been perfectly content with the result but then again I don't have a special rig and don't actually "listen" to vinyl, I transfer to digital, clean up egregious pops and clicks, and enjoy on CDR.

Well do report .. and were you being too careful or do you know that Black Friday jazz releases are going to sell out quickly where you live? (I guess if you know they are only getting one in stock that changes the calculation but when the Three Sounds LP was being released I was on line at opening ... and everybody went to the rock/pop section for Black Friday items and I got what I came for - and the second copy never sold, to my knowledge, before the location was closed during a consolidation of that local chain (three stores into 2). -
Thanks for posting, this fit the bill for online reading the morning after Thanksgiving when there's hardly any news to look at ... I find Iverson to be much better as an interviewer than in this sort of thing ... It's interesting that he (a pianist) disses Walter Bishop Jr and Duke Jordan as soloists, not to mention Joe Albany's sense of time (I just received a copy of Dickey Myers LP (Allen Lowe production) from the same year, with Albany, and the old guy absolutely sparkles. I admit I don't know the record Iverson was listening to, but he opines that Albany wasn't gigging much, and I've found quite a few jazz show listings in 1979 for Joe Albany's New Yorkers.) There are other comments but I didn't keep a running list and it's time to get ready for work so I'll just stick with my main observation for now. Oh, except that, for a lengthy post he must have worked a long time on, he could have tried his hand at editing/proofing.

Well we know it wasn't a porn production company - the naughty bits would be pixelated.

I should note the ones with just an audio player can't be downloaded but the ones with a link (the name of the artist/concert) are direct mp3 links that can be saved. I think I snatched about 20 or so, and there were another six I need to stream to record, including a Ben Webster/Kenny Drew recording from 1965 that I don't recognize. Edit to add: I am going to go out on a limb and say this has not seen commercial release or if it has I don't know about it. Not ringing any bells and sparkling Kenny Drew and still vibrant Ben: https://pastdaily.com/2020/08/23/ben-webster-quartet-live-in-copenhagen-1965-past-daily-downbeat/

Has anyone heard of this site? Seems to be a veritable ton of audio from radio archives (most or all from some cat named Gordon Skene(?)) and while I can't tell what is super rare, what trades among collectors or on Dime, the collection seems mind-blowing. Here's a link to one search, you should check it out. Especially since all posts have direct links to the MP3 files so you can just right click and save if you wish, or use the player. https://pastdaily.com/?s=jazz

I realize tomorrow is an American holiday but I saw a tweet by a guy who calls himself Ken Tremendous - I am almost certain he is one of the guys who used to rip Joe Morgan as a baseball commentator - anyway his attitude toward Thanksgiving is ... something. Something so outside of my reality I can't begin to grasp it. Read the whole thread then take the poll!

2020-21 MLB Hot Stove Discussion
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
And I'm sure he'd like to win again with Tito at the helm ... and I did see news that Francona is doing much better from the medical problems that took him out of the dugout this summer, so that is good to hear. He deserved much better from his players and ownership the way it ended in Boston. -

I don't think that last bit is scuttlebutt, I think Theo has said directly that he's interested in an ownership stake. the rest of it is just silly guessing. And the Yankees should be about 100-1 they aren't hiring Theo to make baseball decisions. So what are the odds current ownership puts their team on the market, for the Rangers or Indians? -
COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The woman is hosting the event. There's no option to bribe her not to be involved. Mom worries less about the virus than we think is proper so its unlikely she would agree to a different aide. I am however going to suggest to my sister that we consider having her limit her time in the house and mostly take care of her shopping needs for the two weeks. Daily testing is not realistic by any stretch of the imagination, from what I know about getting tested. -

Mom is very particular about who comes on a daily basis. There was a Covid scare with this woman - she quarantined at home for a period of time but in the end no one had it. But I do get your concern, she's someone from "outside" coming in 5 days a week. So I will discuss with my sister. We're certainly insisting on a prolonged period of mask wearing after Thanksgiving. -

Worrisome ... as I am concerned that my Mom's home aide is having 18 family members (about 13 don't live with them) over for Thanksgiving. I've told her she has to make sure Olga wears a mask for at least 2 weeks when she comes back to work next Monday. this may be a good chance to find out if a mask really protects other people and not the wearer. I'm just annoyed they would do such a gathering at all. -

I just realized SS1's last post was this ... anyone in contact with Jeff? -
I don't think I can handle Flea being this knowledgeable or sophisticated when he's also the guy who performed naked or wearing a sock on his schlong and nothing else.

Never saw that one ... does it say on the inside, "I was the daughter of a screwed up mega-star, and I married a screwed up mega-star."? -
Well done sir. Thank you.
