Jack Walrath featuring Michael Cochrane - early 80s in France. Wish I had more info. Quite tasty.

Excellent info Bertrand. It's interesting that Tina needed a horn to make this gig, yet he was playing so well apparently.. Wonder if he was a bit rough at the start of this long-term gig. Needing a horn suggests that he wasn't very active before getting hired. I would not assume that it was his last gig just because he cancelled out of the later one. Getting the later one in and of itself would be an indication of recent or fairly recent activity at the time. I have a question or two now ... What was the club like? Was it for listeners or for drinkers and the owner booked jazz cause he liked it? How attentive were patrons? Did he ever see copies of True Blue brought in for autographs, or other Tina recordings? How much did Rick know about Tina before getting the gig, since he was in High School?

Sammy Price Sextet featuring George Kelly, November 12 1977. Somewhere in France I think.

One copy of a very large box set, and only 750 made 14 years ago .... oh forget it, let me go for the joke: Imagine if every single one was a verified "Hot Stamper"? That's a six figure set right there.

Greatest Smooth Jazz records: recommendations please!

I think my issue, back when he was one of the instrumentalists I'd be forced to spin on Mello 105 was this feeling that the stage name was like a put-on or something. Only in smooth jazz and pop do you get one name artists, right? Anyway Wikipedia says, without attribution, that his inspirations are: Coltrane, Bird, Lateef, JoeHen, Grover and Ronnie Laws, plus Hubert Laws and James Galway. Also says that at the New England Conservatory he performed with the George Russell and Jaki Byard Big Bands. -
I think the questions you had are good ... maybe whether he was using at the time or completely professional, on time etc.

About 90 minutes of The Two Tenor Boogie: Sammy Price (piano, vocals), Percy France & George Kelly (saxophones), Leonard Gaskin (bass) Ronnie Coles (drums), about a week before their appearance at the 1987 Bern Jazz Festival. Worth every penny of the $50 transfer fee to the Smithsonian.

2020-21 MLB Hot Stove Discussion

Boston Globe reports Cora is coming back. Too bad the 2018 roster isn't, though I guess I like that George Springer rumor SP posted about a few days ago - if you can't beat them with pitching, club them into submission. -
I guess I can say I now "know" someone in real life with Covid - someone at my new job who I've only interacted with via email was diagnosed last week or over the weekend (husband and child also positive). Just found out from my wife (her supervisor) that her fever spiked to 105.7 and she is on her way to the ER.

Huh? In this day and age you can go online at I don't know how many different site, create a design and have it in your hands in about 10 days or less. I've designed many t-shirts at Zazzle.com and used other companies for shirts Zazzle refused to make (supposed rights infringement).

Sorry I was traumatized at the age of 6 when a friend's birthday party featured his teenage brother taking each invitee out for wheelies on their driveway. Scared the living crap out of me and you couldn't pay me to get on a motorcycle under any circumstances. Well, maybe those old-folks three wheelers? Naah. I'll pass.

I've always wondered Peter, are you on headphones when listening at such an early hour in AZ?

Amusing, but makes me glad I live on 10 acres and not in the townhouse we used to live in.

You can add Percy France to that list and especially when he toured with Oliver Jackson/Leonard Gaskin/Cliff Smalls. Almost always the same tunes from the Le Quartet album, and same order. He had a little variation on his own shows at the West End and the Flamingo Lounge. But LD - I don't know how many private recordings I have with LD singing "give me back my wig" ... and his "not for fusion or con-fusion musicians" patter.

I am so pleased with my BFT that I wish it were January already. Which would also mean that 2020 is over ... also something to look forward to.

What (patriotic) song brings tears to your eyes?

When combined with the images I put together from the 2004 and 2016 post-season triumphs in Flash movies, "Tessie" and "Go Cubs Go," respectively. Edit to add: We Are The Champions, for the 2004 Red Sox. -

I wouldn't possibly know of three but ... maybe George Benson 90s recordings? Surely there would be moments of inspired improv still. When I worked at a Light Adult Contemporary station the owner programmed instrumentals by some guy named Craig Chaquico who I just discovered via Allmusic that he was lead guitarist for Jefferson Starship(?). I can't vouch for any recordings because they all suck donkey dicks but one name I know of is Boney James, for whom there is a special place in hell for his warmed over Cannonball/Maceo licks which are probably nonetheless too gritty for your needs. -

NIki Haris, daughter of Gene Harris (and Gene and his late 90s quartet plays on 5 of the tracks). Niki was one of Madonna's backup vocalists in the late 80s, very recognizable from concert/music videos.
