  1. Oh. I think the Ted Harris is the best because the entire band is either legendary or quite well known.
  2. The suggestion that the Ben Webster "fits" or the Hammond Cheese?
  3. Can't believe I didn't think of this guy: Ted Harris (saxophones, clarinet, arranger). Jim S. posted about him under the mistaken assumption he was Barry Harris' not-so-famous brother. But he did make some records with some pretty great sidemen. His first record is pictured below. Presents 5 Giants of Jazz brought in Tommy Flanagan, Richard Williams, Vernell Fournier and Charles Williams. His last had Al Hibbler and Virgil Jones.
  4. Excellent sleuthing ... and I have an update from my buddy Bret - Box Set 2 now expected "Fall 2020".
  5. So are there any solos by Dex or Wardell? I found a blog posting about this record in which the author stated he spent the first side waiting for a tenor solo. Not sure I'd track this down if they just play on the heads.
  6. Perhaps you missed the reporting but indications of "re-infections" have been discounted. What the re-tests were picking up were dead virus fragments which take a while to clear the recovered system's.
  7. No question there are idiots out there, but how do you explain the fact that social distancing in fact started before official lockdowns went into effect? Phone data has shown this all over the place. I am not saying lockdowns weren't needed but people did start wising up before most state and local governments did.
  8. Ben Webster and the Frans Wieringa Trio should almost get honorable mention in this thread, since supposedly Wieringa got the date because he raised the dough to hire Ben. He might not have been the greatest pianist but at least he had the good sense to put Ben's name at the top on a record that only got made because he wanted to record.
  9. I didn't even look I thought it was a double posting.
  10. In 1998 bassist Greg Cohen got Donald Bailey and Gerry Wiggins for the rhythm section of his second album, and Teddy Edwards as the horn: https://www.discogs.com/Greg-Cohen-Moment-To-Moment/master/977055 (There are several others with Teddy that easily fit in this thread, I guess he dug the cash or wanted to help younger players.) Earl Washington got some heavy hitters on one of his Workshop Jazz albums:
  11. I'm torn between buying it to have the music on a nice CD set and knowing that it is on the Mosaic. That's one of the things with Mosaics, the feeling that you should listen to the whole thing, vs just having a single cd that is sure to be very enjoyable as Larry says. At < $11 I think I'll just bite on it, if they stole from the Mosaic mastering I'm sure the sound will be good. Not a dubious live recording.
  12. How exceptionally woke of you. News flash: where it came from is long out of the bag. Facts are facts and the facts are that diseases have been named by place of origin (or supposed place, in the case of the 1918 pandemic) for a long long time and this disease's place of origin is a place called Wuhan.
  13. Spanish Flu MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome) Lyme Disease Ebola Zika All named for geographic locations of origin (Ebola named for a river rather than the village when it was first recognized.) So FFS, yes it can be called the Wuhan Virus, no matter what you think about that fact.
  14. Woops I just remembered its Billy Wiggins not Higgins. Carry on.
  15. Then you should look for this one.
  16. Try again. They didn't end anything, 100 million people are on renewed lockdown. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/over-100-million-in-china-e2-80-99s-northeast-face-renewed-lockdown/ar-BB14ev9M
  17. Not planning to shop for records anytime soon but that is both local and online and not reflective of Corona Concern and more reflective of financial and time constraints (nearest decent one is at least 30 minute drive and since moving four years ago I had only managed one trip there anyway.)
  18. Someone sent a CDR of this one many year ago, excellent that it will be available much more widely. (And I am really unclear on the "One For Me" title as it seemed to me very one-of-a-piece with her other recordings. Maybe she meant, if this sells, I'm getting the money, so One for Me?)
  19. On the positive side, today at 11:45 am I was in one of the Publix supermarkets we shop at regularly and not only was there TP on the shelves but there were a few packages left for several brands. I'm sure if I'd have arrived 30 minutes before there would have been none, as I have been conditioned to expect, as this is the very first time since this started that I saw TP at a Publix. And best news is that there was one 20-roll pack of the brand my wife prefers (long-lasting Scott's) so I really hit the jackpot. On the negative side, from the WSJ: Officials in the Fengman district of Jilin city, the provincial capital, on Sunday told residents they should stay at home, and shut down public spots including cinemas and karaoke bars. The district is the second place in China to reimplement such steps since the country began to ease stay-at-home measures in early April. A week ago, Shulan, another city in Jilin province, banned public activities after a woman hired to wash police uniforms spread the virus to 21 others in a one-week period.

So glad you referenced this on the Curtis Amy/Don Randi thread as I certainly missed all references to this until now. Looks awesome, can't wait to hear new Teddy Edwards doing his thing with Jack Wilson. Even if the trumpeter isn't so hot how bad can it be. Thanks Niko.
  21. Only that you would be interested and I wouldn't.
  22. and this one (yeah I paired them up wrong, and these are photos from current ebay auctions, too. But these are the four tracks I am transferring to wav.
  23. Still on an Eddie Johnson kick, used a gift card from an insurance carrier for this 78
