Another wild wacky trip via the USPS. By the way it started in south Jersey, and Ybor City is supposed to be the last stop before the local PO. F-in ridiculous. In fact another box, which is now sitting at the local PO, took 24 hours to go from Ybor to Plant City, a trip that should be less than four hours between scans. At least it made it. This one, who the hell knows. Edit to add that it actually seems to have made it from Ybor City to Boston via some Green New Deal experimental high speed rail because no plane commercial jet could get it that distance in 73 minutes.

I wasn't sure I wanted to see it. Don't think I'm glad I did. Knowing what we do about the last years of his life, seeing him aged and knowing he was struggling makes it harder to look at.

Play ball! 2019 MLB season thread
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Clearly Leon is on his way back. I know the pitchers like him, I thought they also liked Vasquez. The team commitment to Swihart seemed misplaced, but with no options left a year ago they kept him on the roster the whole season. I am sure someone chooses him off the waiver wire now. Its a terrible start and after the Yankees they go to Tampa, not the team a struggling club wants to see. OTOH Yankees place Greg Bird on the DL, (sorry, IL) with a left plantar fascia tear. Haven't heard of that before but it sounds like a month in a walking boot before he even starts rehab or baseball activities. The hits really keep on coming for the Yanks. -

Isn't the Dex from a local Chicago broadcast tv show? I seem to recall that was the original source ... -
I don't know about all that but my first question is WTF? Every Masters Sunday I've paid attention to, I've watched the final hole in the gathering near twilight. Was this moved up because of weather? Or is this a new thing I wasn't aware of with earlier start times? Imagine my shock when I turn on CBS and keep seeing "recorded earlier" but no indication of rain delay or anything. Than Nantz starts talking with some Australian dude and the next thing I'm hearing is "historic" and "epic" and that's about the worst way to find out how it ended. Mom has taken to watching golf much more than I ever recall, I wonder if she saw it live or doesn't even realize she's watching something on tape delay.

Re: Feelings, Would that be the versions by Al Martino, Gator, Barney Kessell, Bunky Green, Earl Hines, Ella and Joe Pass, Hub, Jean-Luc Ponty, Monty Alexander, Piet Njoordijk (considering how he plays with Ben Webster on the Dutch jazz archives release, I'm thinking he tears that mother up) and ... that's it from Allmusic? That can't possibly be it can it? -
I've strung along some of these Nigerian scammers, it amuses me as many of them simply buy a packet of emails to send out in sequence, so you can send a reply a be a total jackass, and the response will be the next email in the set, completely ignoring what I wrote, and setting me up for the lowering of the boom on the "fees" involved to get the money out. One time I got a message from a scummy "banker" trying to share the great fortune of his dear, departed, former client, who died in a plane crash and his money has sat there in the account ever since. I told him I've spent the last five years trying to find my father, who was a businessman in his country, and now out of the blue I got an email from his personal banker! Incredible! I told him that now I've learned where my father's money is, I'll be collecting it myself, no sharing of proceeds necessary. So since I've responded to these people, I am now on the lists of prior scam victims, and most of the emails I get are from the UN or from the US State Department, assuring me that they are going to make me whole, and not only pay me for my losses, but give me the millions I was promised before**. Can't wait! ***Edit to add: and loaded on an easy to use debit card, no less!

That's interesting ... my father was a huge smoker but his cold turkey moment came at a sales meeting for a new syndicated special on the dangers of smoking, when he worked for Group W (Westinghouse Broadcasting). He said when the lights came up after the presentation, he theatrically threw his cigs to the center of the table and said he'd never smoke another one. And he didn't, yet about 30 years later he had a bout of pneumonia right at Christmas time, spent the holiday in the hospital, and his doctor said that his smoking so many years ago had exacerbated the damage, even though he hadn't had one in so long. so glad I was a smoker for about five minutes in high school. The kid who was with me was sucked into its maw, a smoker to this day.

I was told directly via email that I would not have access without a student ID, period. Only students can ask for reference materials and apparently they card them. It hardly matters I purchased volume 1 anyway.

The Sounds recording with organ overdub that works is Live at the Lighthouse. Vibrations has its moments but isn't their best.

Dude! Come back more frequently!!! -
I think the issue is a review of an expanded reissue of Mainstream sessions, at least half of the CD looks to be strings and personally I'd probably feel the same way. Bill Dahl is kind of the Yanow of the blues for AMG, at least for me. He's pretty close to my tastes. I'd be curious though about the original session with organ/tenor/guitar.

Strangely, two stars at Allmusic. Is this the version with strings or are they reviewing something different?

Maybe Scullers wasn't playing ball on the recording being issued? So they are going stealth?

Man I desperately need to use something like this. I have discovered in the past two months I have purchased three titles on discogs that I already owned - a Pablo Basie, a Cleanhead Muse, and most embarrassingly, I purchased the Jay McShann duo recording on Sackville twice in two months. The Cleanhead was something in the stacks, and the Pablo was purchased about a year ago. Basically for the McShann and Basie, $5 purchases became $10 total costs because of my foolishness.

He isn't here hardly ever but let's wish Evan a Happy 60th. Especially since he'd always wish you a happy more-pedestrian-birthday. -

How soon do they say Severino goes under the knife? Latest news is not exactly encouraging. Although, if it doesn't require surgery and Severino comes back sometime around June that's a helluva mid-season addition, assuming the Yankees are still in it which is hard not to believe even with their injury troubles to date. -

Both are on the Dutch Jazz release of Ben Webster Meets Piet Noordijk. (that is, piano and drums) I wouldn't hesitate on this one when it comes to the CD but then again I have been diagnosed a Dexaholic a long time ago. -
