  1. that is staggering that you say this Larry. Are you really unaware that First Amendment rights carry thru to all state-sponsored universities? Or that if a state-sponsored university favors one speaker over another that's viewpoint discrimination, also illegal under the first amendment?
  2. I'll add that Milo does too. Its in the first amendment, which allows all the publications Larry ever worked for to, you know, publish his writings.
  3. I didn't look at this thread for the longest time because I figured maybe Grace Kelly sung at one time or another or something? to steer it back to the young lady, I am looking at her like she is Candy Dulfur without the sex appeal. And if Allen is to be believed, without sax appeal either.

Now I'd go out a lot more often if I could find a bar that had a Hank Mobley cover band.

I don't think its only the well-to-do though. I'm just pointing out that with limited disposable income I lost my appetite for exploration a while back. I doubt Larry or Chuck consider themselves well-to-do but they retain that adventurousness for which I can't muster up the interest.
  6. We're not talking about the majority Brad its a persistent and very loud minority. Their use of fascist techniques to silence those whom they label as "fascist" is amusing if it weren't so goddamn appalling. And now that I see Charles Pierce call Christina Hoff Summers a "professional troll" makes him equally as appalling as the fascists who try to "no-platform" her.
  7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY 2018! WOO-WOO
  8. The Jeff Hamilton Trio is a very nice group and the recording with Scott Hamilton is topnotch. Fans of Scott shouldn't hesitate on that one. Had no idea Wilford Brimley ... sings? Hell I had no idea the dude was still alive. He does have a good group backing him.
  9. I've been wondering about this as I have a bead on the 10 CD box at a very cheap rate. Of course I'm supposed to be stepping up to support Mosaic but I'm a self-interested m-f so ...
  10. CD issue is supposed to be a month or so after Record Day.

Put me down for the zone of comfort. I know what I like and why I like it. Life's too short and money is too tight when there is still new or new-to-me recordings that I can reasonably anticipate enjoying.
  12. Interesting. Wish there was more info on the studio date in France, and no indication if the Oil Can set has anything straightahead. I hope it's not a single 30 minute medley track or I might just pass on that one.
  13. and that was before the decline and fall of record stores. Reading thru that court decision I have to guess that the two "uptown records" agreed to live and let live as no one forced him to change the name. Indeed! And what's that Joe Thomas/Jay McShann? Looks right up my alley ...
  14. That's what made it the archival label. So much attention to all aspects of presentation. I can't imagine Bob made much if any money on his label, and if it was profitable early, it couldn't have been very profitable post-2000 or so. Jazz needs benefactors like him. I actually conversed a bit with him by email about the Picadily tapes and release plans. Looking back I do see him mentioning having a "lot" of masters ready to go just pending notes from whoever caught that gig. Now seeing Bertrand's mention of "20" West Bank tapes, I really wish I had asked him what else he had gotten with the Sonny Red recording.
  15. Wow. Before Resonance, Uptown was the archival jazz label. I'm glad he put out so many great recordings and I can only hope there's someone in the family willing to carry on i his memory, or that whatever tapes are still held still see release someday. RIP and thanks for the music.
  16. Happy Birthday Big Al! Stop lurking and get to posting again!
  17. Hey I had my High School Spanish! I just don't know how to make the keyboard make the thingie over the n.
  18. Glad to see you back, MG.
  19. Tom is undoubtedly king of the live recording trade arena, at least among the members here. Sometimes I wonder if he does anything else, and that includes any work for, you know, compensation.:G
  20. Happy Birthday 2018!
  21. I think that's El Gran Senor.
  22. Choruses to be taken? I think its cool that he was still playing Hanky Panky though I can't recall a latter-period live set that includes that tune. Or Mcsplivins for that matter.
