I think I resemble that remark. Later, I programmed Freddie Roach and Junior Parker back-to-back, each performing "Next Time You See Me".

Back to jazz with Johnny O'Neal Live at Baker's Keyboard Lounge (Parkwood). Seems rare from what I could tell online. Great set of tunes: Ugetsu, Battle Hymn, Fee Fi Fo Fum, Fungi Mama. Should be a good 'un.

Compilation of blues/r&b, many obscure. Vinyl issues in the 80s (I think) followed by CDs. http://www.nortonrecords.com/stompin/?sort=alphaasc I've found the vocal stylings of Redd Foxx on one of the CD issues, as well as "Little" George Benson's first recordings.

Next up, Stompin Volume 9 Love this series.

Walter Bishop, Jr. Hot House (Muse) Finally went record shopping in the Tampa area for the first time since our move and scored some interesting titles starting with this one which I had no idea about. Junior Cook and Bill Hardman on the frontline for half of it and I am pretty sure this never got a CD release so I had to jump on it. Me likey so far.

http://www.jazzarchief.nl/product/ben-webster-meets-piet-noordijk/ The Don Byas release send me to the jazzarchief.nl site and this unheard concert came out in August but I don't think anyone's posted about it. Apparently Mr. Noordijk somewhat brusquely invited himself to sit in with Ben, but Webster was up to the challenge, even at this late date (he would die within the year I believe). Found this review: Our CD review by Ben Webster was also recorded in 1973. A Dutch radio station made a radio broadcast on 2 February of that year from a concert in De Koffer in Groningen. The sound quality of Ben Webster meets Piet Noordijk – Johnny Come Lately is much better than the recording made in Leiden. And the concert much more spectacular. Although Ben Webster (1909-1973) by now his deteriorating health made most of his latter performances sound mostly routine, the Groningen concert is known to be spectacular. This saxophone maestro gave us one last unmatched demonstration of his beautiful ballad playing and his wonderful growling fast numbers. Alto saxophonist Piet Noordijk already had played a gig in the city and he decided to challenge Ben Webster in De Koffer. That resulted in a spectacular concert, with the two saxophonists chasing and stimulating each other. Pianist Irv Rochlin, bassist Rob Langereis and drummer Tony Inzalaco had to make overtime. Piet Noordijk (1932-2011) was the most famous Dutch alto saxophonist. He played bebop as well as avant garde and free jazz. For a long time, he was a member of the famous Metropole Orchestra. In 1987 he received a Bird Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Saxophonist Benny Carter and bassist Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen where also honored at this famous festival. http://jazzineurope.mfmmedia.nl/2016/09/cd-review-ben-webster-meets-piet-noordijk-johnny-come-lately/ Just ordered ...

Edit to add: Amazon Marketplace has several Japanese sellers offering for about $35 but I found it here: http://www.cdbanq.com/Ben-Webster--Ben-Webster-Meets-Piet-Noordijk-Japan-CD-FNCJ-5618_p_235331.html Did some searching and they seem to be a decent company and the price with shipping under $28 to the US.

This is killing me but how appropriate would it be for the Cubs to make like the 2004 Sox and all they have to do is win 3 in a row, not 4, and they aren't coming back from a 19-8 drubbing. So I'll just remember what Kevin Millar told everybody before game 4 of the ALCS: "Don't let the Sox win tonight. Cause if we do, then they get Pedey, and then they get Schilling, and anything can happen in Game 7. So don't let the Sox win tonight." Who knows maybe Theo has got Millar lined up for a pre-game pep-talk. Maybe he'll get everyone to take a shot of Jack Daniels, too. C'mon Lester, don't let the Tribe win tonight. Get it back to Cleveland and get Schwarber back in the lineup, take your chances with Arrieta and Hendricks. -

I saw him with Javon Jackson and Benny Golson last December if memory serves, a fantastic concert. I brought the book with me but there was no chance to ask him to autograph it.

All things considered, Cubs should be happy to head home to the friendly confines with Hendricks on the mound against a team that has to sit their DH. Lester is the guy with the pedigree but Hendricks led the majors in ERA. Would be awesome if Schwarber is cleared to play the outfield. Otherwise he's going to get very familiar with Andrew Miller. -

If the Cub bats keep it up I don't see how Cleveland wins. But if Tomlin and Bauer are effective, Kluber, Miller and their closer could easily extend the heartbreak. But head to head, who would pick Tomlin or Bauer over Arrieta or Hendricks? Of course that's why they play the games. All I can really say for sure is that I've got the champagne "flute" already picked out: That's a picture I found online but we've owned the three glass-set since 1969 and I took home from Mom's the outfield version with Jim Hickman's autograph. Seems he was my favorite Cub when I was four years old. -

It is the way it used to be, switching off year by year. Regarding your first point though, with the rounds of playoffs, I'm not sure how often the team with the best record gets thru to the big dance. It's really a system that would prevent a wild card team (say Toronto if they had played better) got home field advantage just because their league won the ASG. Doesn't seem right, if it happened. -

No idea but its surely a good question. If everyone is over the heartbreak of the infamous f-ed up All-Star game, my proposal going forward would be that team with best record gets home field in the Series. -

Just saw on the mlb scroll that 24 of the last 30 World Series were won by the team with the home field advantage. The problem with that statistic is that unless it went seven games, its impossible for the team with four games at home to have had a home field advantage. When the Sox swept the Cards and later the Rockies, it was two games at Fenway and two games on the road. Any series that goes 6 is a 3/3 split. And if the road team splits the first two games and then sweeps at home to win it all, then technically they had a home field advantage, 3-2, in a series that the "home team" lost. So to me the whole question is how many times a seventh game has been won by the visitors. And relatedly, can the Cubs avoid having to play a seventh game? I was with Mom this weekend so we got to enjoy the clincher together which was very nice. I know how much this means to her and I've told her that if the Cubs can win the first three, I'll make another trip to Naples next Saturday to watch game 4 with her. -

http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/rob-bradford/2016/10/20/inside-story-injury-eventually-helped-end-dav Now we know why Ortiz never entertained the thought of playing beyond this season, and the truth makes the last four seasons even more remarkable. Pull quote: "he was essentially playing on stumps". -
No Joel, what happened is that you posted about the interview, then in less than a day, went ape-shit that no one had posted anything in response, at a time when the interview wasn't even up and available. YOU made the issue about you, and the lack of ego-stroking from anyone on the board, and attacked everybody in sight for this perceived slight. I'll say it again: the interview didn't exist online and you attacked the entire board for not jumping in with praise for you. I've known needy artists, but that was some seriously fucked up shit, and it went downhill from there, starting with your first announced "departure". So, go, stay, or say you're leaving and then eventually come back. Makes no nevermind to me.

Cleveland has figured out a way to cover up for a severely deficient starting rotation (injuries or not, its still pretty weak after Kluber) and that is scary. Hopefully the Cubs offense is back, I feel optimistic they can go to Chicago with a 3-2 lead as long as Lester is sharp. But then they have to beat Kershaw or Hill to get thru to Cleveland. -

Of that I have no doubt. Just as if I used MP3s to populate an audio CD they would no longer be mp3s. I certainly recall a time when I did have to convert files or discs to wav in order to burn an audio CD. -

I think that's often true. I know I didn't expect to burn an audio CD from FLAC files but I could and I did and it played. -
