I found the Foster Montreux recording many years ago, solely because I was helping out a former member of our tribe in completing his Blue Note collection. But I didn't think I'd give a fair or helpful review since I didn't buy it for myself, didn't expect to like it, and didn't.

I don't think it means anything either. How about If the hard bop movement had a musical avatar, it was Hank Mobley. Not only does that have an understandable meaning but it ties into the other opening sentence: But Mobley—as Blue Note's house tenor saxophonist—was hard bop's iron man, its anchor and dependable force.

Why are these kind of gigs even organized?

Maxine Gordon or George Cables' participation strikes me as utterly irrelevant. What's going to happen here? Some pick up group will jam on some Dex tunes, or tunes that Dex played often but didn't actually compose, someone will get "You've Changed" as a ballad feature, someone else will get "Darn That Dream" ... this epitomizes what Tom was talking about. I'd stick with the records. -
You did indeed - six years ago this month. George Harrison's "Something,"Track 5 of Disc 2 of BFT 43. Here's my comment:

What about the next one, Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow? I have never been able to find that one in the blogosphere, but it looks promising on paper. According to Lord, it is a trio only, recorded in Detroit, and they do tunes like On Green Dolphin Street, Love For Sale, After Hours and Li'l Darlin'. It is coming out in Japan in March, so I have been thinking of getting it. I have heard most of Gene Harris's subsequent 1974-77 output, and it is indeed 70s Blue Note at its worst, but I had some hopes for the 1973 album. Y, T & T is more of a mixed bag, imo, then Of the Three Sounds. The title is highly apt as there are "Yesterday" tracks which aren't as great as the original trio but still good, and then there are "Today" and "Tomorrow" tracks that are putrid. For me, that is.

FWIW, Gene Harris Of The Three Sounds is the last listenable BN he recorded. Not great but not gaak-invoking either. So sayeth the Gene Harris Fanatic.

Did the Rangers really have to offer Lance Berkman 10 Million plus a 1 million dollar buy-out on a 2014 option to be their DH? 10 million for a 37 year old with chronic knee problems who played less than 35 games last year? Nice work if you can get it.

You're forgetting reality tv. No revenue reduction will kill that and it will dominate ahead of porn and preachers. -

This can also drastically alter the drama landscape of cable TV (outside of HBO and Showtime). Can TNT and the many other networks with original dramatic programming finance the same number of productions in an a la carte world? -

There's very little to understand: Attractive 'Canes or Gators are Florida State transfers. Or eligible to transfer. -

I remember when I first saw her when "the deuce" debuted - and I kept going back and forth on whether she was attractive or not. Then I found out she was a 'Cane and the fuglies overtook her. -

Still Hannah and Mary Ann over Suzy and Ginger. But here's an amusing factoid. Suzy Kolber atended the University of Miami in Florida. Tina Louise attended Miami University in Ohio, or as my brother says, "the real Miami." -
Why Anti-Virus software is Falling Behind

Stupidity is one but hardly the only reason viruses are successfully created and spread. -

The antivirus industry has a dirty little secret: its products are often not very good at stopping viruses. Consumers and businesses spend billions of dollars every year on antivirus software. But these programs rarely, if ever, block freshly minted computer viruses, experts say, because the virus creators move too quickly. That is prompting start-ups and other companies to get creative about new approaches to computer security. http://www.nytimes.c...&pagewanted=all Pretty interesting ... and those last couple of grafs about the threat to smart-phones makes me glad I've stuck with a stupid-phone.

Interesting to finally hear Ms. Michiru. Enjoyed it but, as Jim says, "No such thing as a "typical" Monday Michiru song in terms of "style" or groove" I'm not at all sure I want to take any plunge. An interesting and mostly enjoyable BFT, thanks again!

Easy rule of thumb: If the name of the beer includes "Milwaukee" then the beer sucks donkey dicks. I understood this in college when despite relative poverty I did my best to stick with what is still the only beer I truly : St. Pauli Girl. -
