  1. Most of these aren't amusing as when you turn his quotes into poetry. More here.
  2. Or paying someone close to minimum wage to dust for them. A place like that, unless the staff is big enough, you have domestic staff cleaning different segments every day and rotating to keep it clean on a weekly basis. But you realize, looking at that place, why Jeter was so pissed at their contract offer. He builds his dream house and all of a sudden his take-home pay takes a huge hit. WTF? Why didn't the bosses tell them they planned to do that? He might have built a smaller home if he knew ...
  3. If you need a copy, I can get you that memo.
  4. Not quite tears of laughter but pretty good.
  5. Almost certain that Bud is a reissue of a set that was previously offered as "limited edition".
  6. I think Penguin is fine if you want to read a guide that is as likely to be aggravating or infuriating as it is to be especially enlightening. But if you want a guide that is likely to give you consistently good advice on whether you should purchase a particular CD, it doesn't come close to AMG. For all the abuse heaped on Yanow's narrow shoulders, he is prety consistently accurate when he recommends a particular recording to fans of a particular style, particularly the "modern mainstream".
  7. Unfortunately, the producers of the original film have asserted their rights are being violated and as far as I know, all of those spoofs are gone from youtube.
  8. I've mentioned this before but Dime regards anything from Wolfgang's as a "liberated boot" worthy of being seeded. I was told by a moderator that at least one well-known rocker regards them as thieves who don't pay anything, and so those Newport shows can be seeded on Dime with impunity. It will definitely be interesting to see if Sue Mingus does anything. If she doesn't its almost a positive affirmation that all the i's are dotted and t's crossed, legal-wise.
  9. How could anyone tell if Colon were 25 pounds overweight? And what is that in comparison to? In his heyday, he was always at least 25 pounds overweight. So does this mean he came into camp at least 25 pounds over that? And anyway, the Yankees just recently signed him. I'm sure they didn't do that sight unseen, so they were probably well aware of whatever his current weight is - unless Dave means that he went on an eating binge in celebration of the resumption of his major league career, and packed on 25 pounds in three weeks. A guy like that you judge only by whether or not he can get major league hitters out with any regularity.
  10. Not to mention the fact that they tightened up the rules on use of those coupons, so 20-40% off an entire purchase means those people were coming way out ahead than they did when they used a coupon for a one item purchase.
  11. It was the result of a migraine. Not really sure why it went viral, its funny when a reporter says (or sounds like he might have said) "Keep fucking those chickens" but I fail to see the humor when someone has a potentially serious medical problem on live television.
  12.
  13. I hear Watson is pretty good at answering questions.
  14. I'll bet $10 they do honor it, provided that you use it sometime reasonably soon. I see that the Fort Lauderdale store is going bye-bye; when I moved here in '97 that store had a huge selection of jazz and was jam packed all the time. But I stopped going a long time ago. What's really distressing is that my Mom, who has had more time on her hands for reading and basically buys a book with every coupon that comes to her email, is losing not only the store in town, but the next closes one too. If she's heard I am sure she's depressed, if she hasn't I don't want to ruin her day. And even though she's probably computer literate enough to buy online, she really enjoyed browsing the history/politics section, and was also using the coupons to try to find books my father, who is rapidly losing his mind, would enjoy.
  15. How is it that the initial story was "Joba bought a home gym, its all muscle" and now its to be dealt with "privately"? Did he finally take his uniform off in the clubhouse and the writers realised he hadn't added any muscle and it was all fat?
  16. Well aside from the fact that Jim had to dash off the stage before the set was over to blow chunks from a bad batch of Mahi Mahi, a fine time was had at the show at Boston's on the Beach in downtown Delray, steps from the beach. Janiva puts on a great show and her backing band is excellent, and it was nice chatting with a certain personable if ashen-faced keyboard player. (For once this smilie really is appropriate: ) Jim, I hope the fish didn't mess up the rest of your night too bad, wish we could have stayed for the second set, and I hope that it doesn't take you another eight years to make it back to south Florida!
  17. I think Eric/Quincy has it right. Pujols is historically great, with a ten year career season average line that has been equalled by like 9 players in history, and each of them Hall of Famers and each only did it in a single season - Pujols has averaged those outstanding stats for ten years! I've also read that no one should count out the Yankees and Red Sox if he gets to free agency. And it does make sense, as infuriating as it would be to the small market teams. The Sox have one more year of Big Papi and then a gap at DH. The Yankees have Posada as their main DH for one final season. Maybe Pujols has a problem with being DH but when the money comes calling, that can change. And I think it is likely that the Yankees and Red Sox would get in to the bidding on such an historically great player. Hell, playing half his games in Boston, a guy like Pujols could go into his decline years and still put up significant numbers.
  18. OK, here's one perspective: There was only one Clifford Brown. I don't know if she's gifted or not but does every (relatively) young new artist have to be compared to the giants? Or can they just be "gifted"?
  19. That would be more cosmic justice than the gods have ever ordered.

    Ben Webster

How ironic, Chuck - if you remember I wanted to buy that from you a few years ago. Great LP for sure.

    Ben Webster

Speaking of late-period Webster, I recently stumbled across Gentle Ben, recorded in 1972, with Tete Montoliu. A must-have for Webster fans.
