You lucky son of a gun. What hotel are you at? I ask, because last night, me, my wife and my best friend were at the B.B. King Blues Fest, with Dr. John, Shenekah Copeland and the Muddy Waters Tribute Band (that was Muddy's rhythm section who were awesome, a guitarist from the Fabulous Thunderbirds and some harp player who played with Waters for several years. Musically, I actually liked their set the best, until, of course, B.B. came out. Other than the New Year's Eve four years ago when I proposed, this was the greatest New Year's eve of my entire life, hands down. B.B. was tremendous, really up and having a lot of fun, jivin with the crowd and still putting on a show with Lucille. And the man worked: Their set started at 10:45, B.B. was out shortly after 11, and he refused to stop until 12:30, with Dr. John sitting in on 2 of the last three tunes. I LOVE B.B. King. And Dr. John's a pretty cool dude, too. Kind of sad to realize B.B. gets around in a wheelchair these days. I'm guessing he saves most of his walking on and off stages.

Apparently, but I also heard Buster Olney on ESPN saying that the Yanks weren't quite so committed to going all the way to get Beltran, which makes no sense if you're a Yankee fan but sounds fine to me. Think of it: Start the year with a 36 year old centerfielder whose range has shrunk for several years, or get younger and lock in a great player? Apparently its better to commit 32 million to a 41 year old pitcher. And you know what? One pitcher, even a great one, doesn't make a champion. Mussina isn't getting any younger and certainly didn't pitch very well last year. Then you've got Brown, who they don't even want anymore, and Pavano and Wright. Frankly, I think the Red Sox starting staff is deeper. -
And a full WEEK later, my copy made it the additional 10 miles from Boynton Beach to Delray Beach.

Dubai fines drunken Italian for taxi kiss
Dan Gould replied to porcy62's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Actually, the proof that the Emirates is relatively liberal is the fines that each of the miscreants paid. In the rest of the Arab world, the man would have been fined $545. The woman would have been stoned. -

Terribly sad news about a fellow forum member
Dan Gould replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Forums Discussion
I don't think I ever bought from Grey-but I always wondered how he could offer sealed imports at such reasonable prices. But a nice, knowledgeable guy who'll be missed. -
Jim Snidero is very good. He has two CDs out on Fantasy (haven't heard them yet) and I highly recommend his work on Doubletime.
-
Well, I dig Clifford Scott and there's not much out there, but he still sounded good toward the end (I have Mr. Honky Tonk's Back in Town which was his next to last recording) so when I saw this I figured it would be worth a search, if only I had some details on the recording. Now I even have the cover
-
Wow-from AMG mention-in-passing to full details in ten minutes! Thanks so much!
-
AMG mentions that Clifford Scott recorded with Wild Bill Davis in 1986 in Zurich. Anyone know anything about this (title, label)? Thanks in advance.
-
Peter, I would first recommend his High Note recordings with Eric Alexander and Jim Rotondi. Not exactly subtle, but what drive and groove Earland had. Blowing the Blues Away and Cookin with the Mighty Burner are the two Highnote recordings I'd recommend first.

I don't know what makes it dubious, let alone possibly "very dubious". What is obvious is the fact that the grading is very generous, no way a cover with so much browning should be "NM" or that mythical grade, "VG++".

Packer/Eagle Great Reggie White has died!
Dan Gould replied to sheldonm's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
AP report, via ESPN.com Associated Press CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NFL great Reggie White may have died because of a respiratory disease combined with other health problems, a preliminary autopsy report said Monday. White most likely had a condition that affected the amount of air his lungs could hold, resulting in "fatal cardiac arrhythmia," said Dr. Mike Sullivan, the medical examiner for Mecklenburg County and a forensic pathologist. The report issued by Sullivan's office also said sleep apnea may have been a factor. The fearsome Philadelphia and Green Bay defensive end was 43. The report is a preliminary one; determining a final cause of death could take up to three months, Sullivan's office said. White died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville after being taken there from his home in nearby Cornelius. His wife, Sara, called 911. White had the disease, known as sarcoidosis, for several years, family spokesman Keith Johnson said Sunday. He described it as a respiratory ailment that affected White's sleep. On its Web site, the American Lung Association describes sarcoidosis as a disease characterized by the presence of small areas of inflamed cells that can attack any organ of the body but is most frequently found in the lungs. The cause of the disease, which is most common among blacks and white northern Europeans, is not known. Sleep apnea causes people to stop breathing repeatedly -- in some cases, hundreds of times -- during their sleep. "A 43-year-old is not supposed to die in his sleep," Johnson said. "It was not only unexpected, but it was also a complete surprise. Reggie wasn't a sick man ... he was vibrant. He had lots and lots of energy, lots of passion." ******************** Sidebar on sarcoidosis: Sarcoidosis usually not fatal Sarcoidosis, the respiratory disease that may have contributed to the death of NFL great Reggie White, usually comes and goes mysteriously, with about 95 percent of patients recovering, experts say. Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease of unknown origin that usually is very mild, said Dr. Norman H. Edelman, a Stony Brook, N.Y., specialist and a scientific consultant to the American Lung Association. "It's a disease with an exaggerated inflammatory response to some sort of trigger," he said Monday. "It could be an inhaled pollutant or toxin. But we don't really know for sure." Sarcoidosis is lethal in about 5 percent of cases, and it is uncommon to die of the disease at 43, Edelman said. In about 20 percent of the cases, he said, the disease progresses and the inflammation spreads throughout the lungs, and, sometimes, to the liver, brain or heart. But even then, recovery is the most common outcome. "The most common thing we see in patients with sarcoidosis are enlarged lymph nodes in the chest and nothing else," Edelman said. "Eventually, in most cases, the disease just goes away and doesn't get worse." Sarcoidosis is slightly more common among blacks and Scandinavians, Edelman said. "Typically, the symptoms are breathlessness," the doctor said. "The inflammation in the lungs leads to scarring and it makes the lungs stiff. They must work harder to expand." -- The Associated Press -

This from the asshole who compares White apologists to Hitler apologists. I'm guessing that with such a small brain that leaves a tremendous amount of room for all the shit in your head. -

The outpouring of viciousness for this man, who died way too young, leaving a young wife and children behind, tells me one thing: Christiern and a whole bunch of other people posting here are living saints, perfect human beings who have never done anything wrong, or stupid, or said or done anything that they regret. We should be thankful that they walk the earth and can show us the way. But at least I know that when they kick, no one will every say anything nasty about them. They're the most perfect people since that mythical dude Reggie White called his "saviour". -

Frankly, I thought it was more than "working it in"-it was the whole damn solo! Isn't that theft?? He didn't quote a snippet of melody, he just lifted it verbatim.

Not what I saw. It was a part of the ESPN report I saw, and a prominent part of the NBC national broadcast. And who cares that he said a few things that caused an outcry, years ago? He was a great football player, and judging from everything I heard today, a helluva person. That's what he should be remembered for. -
Asian quake tsunami kills more than 7,000

This is really horrifying news. Given the size of the earthquake and tidal wave, I fear that the death toll will be many times worse than is currently being reported.
