  1. Well, we're at 21 arrived, so I'll start the discussion Saturday morning, I think.
  2. Since I've only heard the one about bears, mine was an easy choice. Lucky you didn't ask about the Pope.
  3. Actually, I was thinking about getting it started Friday-the boss is away tomorrow, and you know how the mice will play .... Actually, I've just got too much on my plate tomorrow and can't be following a discussion all day, so the weekend it shall be.
  4. James Spaulding tears up 'Soul Station" on a Muse CD from the early 90s, Blues Nexus.
  5. We're at 16 now, so maybe the discussion will start over the weekend? Or should I wait to give people more time to listen to nearly two and a half hours of music?
  6. I'm not going to vote but years and years ago, when I was a voracious child reader, I borrowed my father's copy of Yes I Can and while I have no idea how much of it was polished up to make Sammy look the best that he could, I remember it being quite a remarkable and enjoyable book. Before he became a caricature, Sammy was a helluva entertainer.
  7. Ballcaps have other valuable practical uses, like hiding unwashed hair when you just need to run out and get the Sunday paper or run to the ATM machine. And don't deny you guys haven't done that yourselves!
  8. Forget that. There's no harm in expressing support for your favored team. What I say is: confiscate any baseball cap being worn backward. Then have your bonfire.
  9. I believe we're at seven recipients so far. Maybe early next week I'll open the discussion threads.
  10. I haven't heard the Hancock LP. I rank Straight Up ahead of Caribbean Suite, which doesn't seem fully realized. Or maybe its the fact that its not his typical straightahead date. But I'd definitely go with Straight Up first.
  11. No problem, Adam, yours will be in the mail soon.
  12. There's a reason why the 60s-70s is universally recognized as the single ugliest clothing era in the history of mankind.
  13. Hopefully Europe will get a few delivered soon. I won't start the discussion til we get 18 or 20 confirmed recipients.
  14. Well, at least you have an excuse. Not as if you're a Brit and we're "separated by a common language"
  15. Didn't I acknowledge that when I posted what you are quoting?
  16. Thanks for the info Chuck! As to your question, why would I when fine people like yourself are more than happy to step up with the answers to my occasional inquiry? Thanks again!
  17. I've got a nice copy of a Joe Newman LP, Way Down Blues on Honeydew. Its copyright is 1977, and the trio backing him is Ross Tompkins, piano, Rusell George, bass and Ron Lundberg, drums. My question is, when and where was this obviously live recording made? Its even more annoying in that the liners discuss each of the four tunes, but nowhere does it bother to mention where or when it was recorded. Thanks, you discographically inclined!
  18. My bad, Brownie. Its Ronnie Cuber, not Brignola, on the LP. He was 16 at the time.
  19. That's ONE!
  20. Hey man, I'm not criticizing the guy. I'd pay big bucks to hear his schtick-I'm jealous of guys like you and Peter Johnson for seeing him in person!
  21. Thanks, Brownie. Its an OK LP-I think there was one other young 'un who got a bit of attention as an adult. I'll have to dig it out later tonite and check.
  22. I thought the line was, "Kenny G, Najee, any of those damn "G"s!"
  23. Boy, did you hit that one on the head O' Weize One! I have been singing the praises of this CD all over the place. Now this CD is worth the $30 import price... and then some!! Later, Kevin EDIT: Actually the title of this CD is "No Problem", not "Our Father Who Art Blaky". I got it from Cadence for only $20.
  24. As a drummer's date, does Joe take a lot of solos, or lead off the solos? Or is it more of a typical small group date? The only thing that would make me hesitate is if it really comes across as obviously a drummer's date.
  25. Does anyone know how old Bringnola was at that point? I ask cause I have a copy of a Coral LP, Newport Youth Band, which purports to be Brignola's recording debut, and I'm not at all sure about the date of that concert ...
