What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.
Rabshakeh replied to EKE BBB's topic in Miscellaneous Music
It's a country record. George Jones very much the emotive Nashville balladeer. One of the greatest. This is a good record to try if you are in the mood for that. I Am What I Am is probably my favourite of his. Virus showing now signs of subsiding (rather eruptive stage still). Unconnected to hospital visits which were for asthma and horror film-style forehead-splitting incidents respectively, courtesy of my two elder kids. Ironically the newborn is the easy one, so far. -
They still go out the door, I guess. Never quite top of class from a hard bop or fusion perspective but the key artist for the rare groove revival.

George Jones - Alone Again Heavy week juggling hospital visits and norovirus. This one's hitting the spot at the moment. -
Is this good or terrible?

It was a joke. I'm not going to read the article. -
Lol. What's the Cook County one like?

Kirk Whalum – Gospel According To Jazz Chapter III The fact that the featured guest artists include George Duke and no less than four family members tells you what kind of record this one is.

This is three. What are the other five? -
Do you call in advance or just drop by?

Isn't it with Pat Thomas?

That's the one thing I miss about twitter. If there are any good lists please repost (I recall we have a jazz flute thread somewhere), as I'm a big fan. I'm pretty underwhelmed. I'd rather just listen to Paul Winter. It does fit with the west coast scene, as you say, but it's always seemed like the weakest of all the current jazz scenes. What I do like is the fact that a hip hop a lister dropping a jazz EWI record no longer even causes eye lids to bat.

Andre 3000 - New Blue Sun Andre 3000's jazz flute record. More like new age EWI record, to be honest.

Is that who you sell to? I've got a lot to shift but sadly this is total capacity post a fairly brutal clear out.
-
I've finally hit total capacity. Literally no space left on my shelves. Not sure what to do with myself. Time to move house.

This is cool. All in one session?

John Zorn Masada DIW/Tzadik box set - due October

I always preferred the live records.to their studio records. -
To make things more tempting, Honest Jon's has just finally got more second hand stock in. This is most less popular styles of jazz (swing, cool, vocal, Atlantic dancey 60s stuff) but it's pretty much all killer, and priced sensibly, so if anyone wants to top up on that kind of stuff it's a good time to visit. I think most of it comes from the boss's own record collection. I guess he's sold off all the AACM, free / spiritual and Tristano stuff now, and is clearing the rest of.

Eugen Cicero – Romantic Swing (Eugen Cicero Plays Franz Liszt) I remain fascinated by this kind of stuff, and it's equivalents into the 1980s (at which point jazz schlock as an adult oriented genre seems to peter out). I have a good idea of the sort of solid burgher who might have bought this sort of record, a european equivalent, I guess, to the US population buying up any orchestral record with "bossa" in the title at the same time. But what about those listeners around the sides? Were there children to whom this was their first experience of jazz as the only non classical record in the house? Classical musicians for whom a chance encounter with Mr. Ciceu's work in an academic library was a vital step in a different direction?

Bobbi Humphrey – Live At Montreux This surprised me, as I'd only ever heard Humphrey's studio records before.

What live music are you going to see tonight?

Interested to know how this is. I toyed with the idea of going but wasn't sure it would work. -
