Montreal Alouettes 37....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 14 http://scoreboards.c.../final/W844.htm Despite the score, the Ticat defence played tough. They forced the Als to attempt 8 FGs, and Duval made 7 of them.

I once saw a woman say on Crossfire that if a man got his date drunk, it was rape because she was by definition unable to give consent. I believe that the word "rape" should be reserved for only the most serious instances. Otherwise I fear that it will dilute the seriousness of real rape. I imagine that men have lied to women in order to get laid since time began. I don't think that a woman should be going to the police saying, "I had sex with a man who lied to me." I guess my feeling is that there are things that people should not do that should not be illegal, not because they are not wrong, but because I don't think the government should be reviewing every moment of every person's life.

The owner of the Ottawa expansion franchise does not expect the team to be called the Rough Riders. Saskatchewan wants to veto the idea. Who cares what Sask thinks? The Ottawa Rough Riders were founded in 1876. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Ottawa/2010/07/21/14785301.html

Ralph Houk has died. I remember one year he managed the AL All-Star team, maybe '62, and in the ninth inning, seven of the nine players were Yankees! http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/baseball/ralph-houk-dies-at-90/article1647918/

organissimo: 2000 - 2010
GA Russell replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Jim, Joe and Randy, thanks for the good vibes and great music! In regard to the CDs, can't they be put on eMusic and live on forever, never going out of print? And iTunes? -
Here's an article that says that streaming sites like Napster are set to take off. http://paidcontent.org/article/419-whos-who-in-the-new-music-gold-rush/ And here's a chart of the various players. http://paidcontent.co.uk/table/unlimitedmusic

I see that I have made an error. Antonioli spent 2002-2006 teaching in Graz, Austria, but she has lived in the US other than that. She now is based in the San Francisco Bay area. She made an album with George Cables in 1985, and two during her time in Europe. This is her fourth album.

Casey Printers hurt his knee last week. Travis Lulay will start this week against the Argos. Jarious Jackson is now apparently the third string QB and will play behind Lulay. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=328093

Here's my vote: Every tune at that same lethargic tempo...and then all those alternate takes...AAAARRRGHHH! LOL, those are my only two Columbia Monks! Maybe that's why I've always thought that his Columbia albums were his worst.

That's the one I have too!

Thoughts on the eBook reader
GA Russell replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Holy Toledo! Amazon has announced that over the past three months, for every 100 hardback books it sells (including books not available as eBooks), it has sold 143 eBooks (not including the free eBooks they offer). http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=176060&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1449176&highlight= -
I imagine that relatively few folks will give jazz much of a chance if they don't like the first album they buy, so those lists are of some value. My objection to them is that pretty much all of them are made up of the usual suspects, and the usual suspects aren't among my favorites.

Yes, I was thinking of that one. I guess that is universally considered his least popular album. It's funny, I've always remembered that one because his middle name is on the cover, but the title has never sunk in.

Nate, that doesn't ring a bell. What's its name?

I received a promo of a new album that might interest some here. Laurie Antonioli is a singer who has spent the past twenty years in Europe, so maybe some of you Yurpeens are familiar with her. She made a duo album with Richie Beirach in 2005, and I think that this album American Dreams is her first one since. I have mixed feelings about it. I like her voice a lot. And I like the musicians here. But I don't like half the songs. I find them interesting but not enjoyable. It's as if she was more interested in making an album that was different to stand out in the crowd than to make one that was likeable. I have found the CD at both Amazon and CDBaby, but unfortunately the samples are so brief that you can't hear enough of each melody to see what I mean when I say they are interesting and different. Too bad Lala is no longer with us to sample the album. Anybody here familiar with her?

I vote against Italy and France, which I rate as my worst Monk albums. If someone would like to suggest a Monk album he thinks is worse, I would be curious.

David, you're probably right, but since this thread is started I'll continue it. Steve Tibbetts - Natural Causes This isn't my idea of jazz. I would call it New Age. Accoustic guitar, with early tracks sounding Oriental. Very mild background music.
