  1. I saw Rick Margitza at both the '90 and '91 New Orleans Jazzfests, and he was great both times!
  2. Belated Happy Birthday Michael!
  3. Davis Sanchez has signed with BC. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=/cfl/news/AJN4288014.htm ***** Javy Glatt has signed with Edmonton. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=/cfl/news/AJN4288238.htm ***** Justin Medlock has signed with Washington. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Toronto/2010/02/12/12859071-cp.html
  4. Two announcements from the Argos today: 1) As expected, the team has been sold to David Braley. 2) The head coach this year will be Jim Barker. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/braley-buys-argos/article1462032/
  5. Try as I might, I couldn't hear Pete Townsend's guitar. I don't think it was plugged in. I thought that Zak Starkey was the best guy out there. I've said for the past few years that North America (both leagues) is suffering from a shortage of good pass receivers. Too many guys in the pros have speed, and can't catch. Brees last night was throwing catchable balls, and the Saints receivers held on to them!
  6. I just hope the Saints don't lose on the last play of the game with too many men on the field!
  7. I would so love for the Saints to win. Their first season wasn't until my senior year in high school, so I didn't grow up rooting for them, but I've always kept an eye on them. But I don't think they have a chance. I'm picking the Colts to win 42-14. PS - Because the Saints are such a strong sentimental favorite throughout the country, and because the game involves Peyton Manning who is perhaps the best quarterback ever, I think it's possible that the game will have the best television ratings ever, by far. Of course, if it is the blowout I expect, the ratings will fall off as the game progresses.
  8. Happy Birthday 2010 BW!
  9. Paul LaPolice has accepted the Bombers' offer. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/blue-bombers-hire-lapolice-as-head-coach/article1457648/
  10. I opened up the Coltrane disc today. I think it (and Ballads, too) would be an excellent choice to give to a female friend who was unfamiliar with him. For each selection, the liner notes list the personnel and the album the track came from. So she would have a clue as to what to get for herself if she heard a song she liked. I think that my female friends would rather hear a romantic album by Paul Desmond than John Coltrane, but that's neither here nor there. As long as she has an open mind toward modern jazz, she'll like this one.
  11. The Bombers have offered their head coaching job to Paul LaPolice. No word yet on whether he has accepted, but why wouldn't he? http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/bombers-offer-head-coaching-job-to-lapolice/article1456485/ ***** The Lions have signed Derick Armstrong. You may recall that he sat out the season after the Bombers dumped him. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/lions-sign-derick-armstrong/article1456329/
  12. Bob Cameron, Tracy Ham, Don Narcisse and Elfrid Payton have been elected to the Hall of Fame. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=/cfl/news/AJN4285964.htm
  13. Happy Birthday!
  14. FFA, my receiver is a Marantz 2015 (which I'm pretty sure was the bottom of the line) from 1975. It still works!
  15. I'll always remember Boris's plan to undermine the economy of the nation by printing counterfeit box tops! PS - Also, Lake Veronica and Bullwinkle's alma mater Whassamatta U.
  16. LOL again, Aggie! That's what everyone said four years ago. Yet I noticed this afternoon that it had 1,170 views when I resurrected it.
  17. Barron Miles has retired. He will become a Lions assistant coach and scout. Miles has the league record for blocked kicks, and is second all-time in interceptions. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/barron-miles-announces-retirement/article1452262/ ***** I expected Bryan Chiu to retire and go out on top, but he has decided to play another year for the Als. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/alouettes-bring-back-bryan-chiu/article1451848/ ***** The 2010 schedule was released today. 18. LOL Remember this thread from four years ago? Over the weekend I was looking at the box of CDs I have for sale, and I came across the John Coltrane Plays for Lovers which I didn't remember having. So this being the time of year for Valentine's Day, I pulled the cd, and plan to open it this week.
  19. You guys have given yourself a tough act to follow with Groovadelphia. Looking forward to hearing it!
  20. The situation is so bad in Toronto that people are declining the opportunity to be the head coach. Scott Milanovich has turned them down. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/blogs/from-the-sidelines/
  21. This story is so horrible that my first reaction was that I would never be able to enjoy his music again. But after a few hours' reflection, it occurred to me that when confronted, he apparently sincerely repented. I believe that there is redemption for all who repent, even the worst among us. So this is an opportunity for me to ask myself if I truly believe that, and I do.
  22. In the mid-60s Mulligan recorded for Limelight, a Mercury label. I particularly like an album he made with Zoot Sims called Something Borrowed, Something Blue. I don't believe that it has ever been released on CD, but some tracks from it were included in a compilation, I believe the Compact Jazz cd.
  23. LOL Tonight I was going through my box of factory-sealed CDs which are still for sale, and I came upon The Ground, which I had forgotten that I owned. So I opened it up and put it on. Pretty good! But as usual for ECMs (at least for me), you have to be in the right mood.
  24. The Lions have released Javy Glatt and Jason Jimenez. Wally hopes to resign Glatt at a lower salary. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/lions-glatt-jimenez-leave-pride/article1450272/
