What's wrong with country? At least it ain't rap!
-
I got mine last week, also no signatures. Great music though. I like the timing being off -sounds more improvisational!
-
I'm surprised there has been such little discussion about this release, with all the positive reviews it's gotten and all the Lloyd fans on the board (connosieur series, where are you?). I've been thinking about getting this one when the budget allows

So, who wants to play at the Bird of Paradise
GregK replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
it's getting worse in ann arbor. a few months ago someone was attacked from behind and stabbed as he was walking down a street next to campus. 2 girls were attacked when someone busted into their house. now we have a brawl. guess I'll never make it to the Bird before it's gone- I choose not to fight! -
I understand completely- I've convinced myself into getting one double (Sonny Rollins at the Vanguard) and two single ECMS, which I only buy when I have Borders coupons because they are priced higher than most other CDs regularly. But I could do a lot of damage if I let myself!

The way it reads, it seems to be 20% for the entire purchase. I just assumed it was too. In fact I intend to use it that way tonight or tomorrow

I had Not for Nuthin, listened to it a few times, almost forgot it was playing because it was so bland, and promptly sold it. I just can't accept the vibes. I've never liked the sound of the vibes. I listened to parts of the Live disc (the one with the green cover), and that had the same effect on me

Zappa-y birthday (I mean, Happy birthday)!!

Any thought/comments on the new Arild Andersen disc, Triangle?
-
What do you think of this set? I'd consider buying it if I could ever find it anywhere around here. Does anyone know if Corea's other box set, the career spanning one from the mid-90s, is still in print?
-
yes. get them both, right away! throw in Water Babies too, it fits right in with both records
-
funny, i just ordered this last night
-
why haven't there been any live releases of Touch of Grey yet? I understand they played this song for years live before it was released in studio form- are they avoiding releasing it now for some reason?

My wife and I are looking at buying a condo (new construction- one car garage, 2 bedrooms, fireplace, about 2.5-3 miles from work). The only thing holding me back is the thought of not being able to resell it in a few years when we move to bigger house. We are looking at condos right now because it's all we can afford, and real estate in the Ann Arbor area is absolutely ridiculous. Small 2 bedroom houses with less than a quarter acre go for 220K and up. I was wondering if anyone here has any insight into the resalability (is that a word? It should be) of condos

Sounds good. Arturo Sandoval was just there last week. I hope the 'Fly can stick around longer than the Bird, as it looks like he's having rent trouble and may have to close, if he hasn't already

Guys, anything coming up in Ann Arbor soon?
-
Cool to see them doing a fellow Canadian's song too. I much prefer Rush doing their own, more complex songs, as they just don't sound right doing blues, but I like this CD.
-
True, but also check out the current version of the ABB. With Derek Trucks in the band they have the biggest jazz inflected sound in their history. Check out the recent live double disc, One Way Out- his solo in Desdemona is intense, free and extraordinary, to these ears. Ok, back to the Dead discussion......
-
I really enjoy the alternates of Limbo and Masqualero on the recent Sorcerer reissue by Miles. The piano sounds thin but I still like them both

You can still get it where you get your Dick's Picks at the Grateful Dead store. Well, I was hoping to find it cheaper. It's something like $75 there, but I do recall it being in the $50s or so at Media Play and Best Buy. Oh well, I still have plenty of Dick's Picks to choose from! I'm looking forward to some recommendations from you folks; thanks again for starting this thread

Is this box, So Many Roads, out of print?? I can't seem to find it in any local stores anymore, where just a few years ago it was in Media Play, Best Buy, Borders, etc. I knew I should have gotten it back then! Another great thing about this band is how their legacy is being handled- they are giving the fans what they want, the Dicks Picks and many other live releases, and at the same time they undermine the bootleggers. Every few months I go to dead.net and select another Dick's Picks usually at random. I recommend #28 to anyone who enjoys the '73 era, one drummer, Godchauxs (Donna doesn't sing too much, thankfully!!) and great versions of the Weather Report suite, Eyes of the World (two of them) and Box of Rain, over 4 discs.
-
I've always meant to give them more attention-in fact, I have found that since I was immersed totally in jazz for a long time, that when I do go back to rock occasionally, it's the Dead or Allman Brothers that I listen to (more the ABB actually). But I did pick up Dicks Picks 28, 4 discs from Feb 1973 that has some great jazzy playing, especially Godchaux's solos. Really enjoyable set. I intend to get more Dicks Picks eventually. I also recently got One From the Vault because I couldnt find Blues for Allah anywhere and I read that the tunes on that album are heavily jazz influenced.

It's not exactly jazz, but my name is in the recent Frank Zappa Vaulternative release FZ:OZ. The folks who pre-ordered got their name printed in the booklet

Exactly. Great discussions happen on this board (as long as you stay outside of the political forum, where you seem to be attacked if you are anything but left of left....) and I enjoy AAJ for its reviews of shows, CDs, and general info.
