get Dylan and the Dead. It is far and away one of the most boring releases I have ever heard. There is nothing about it to recommend, which is a shame. It could have been so much more. The Dead sound tired and bland, Dylan sounds uninterested, and the whole record drags.

no, not paranoia, I'm just burnt out on all the politcally motivated sniping everywhere this year!

what do you disapprove of? just because he's a Republican?

Does anyone have any opinions on Maneri's latest ECM release? Its called Angles of Repose, recorded in a church in France. I haven't heard it but I was wondering if anyone had anything to comment about it

I paid about $70-75 for the Jack Johnson box on the day it was released, at Borders. That was the list price (no sale)

So, who wants to play at the Bird of Paradise

well, there's always the Kerrytown Concert House.... -
I've done some looking around myself and it does look like CDUniverse has it the cheapest. I was going to get it at Borders with a 15% coupon I have, but their price is $129 to begin with. Guess I can wait a day or two and get it for $99 with shipping!

I thought we were going to keep politics out of this discussion? Post this comment in the political forum.

I'm sure I read in the 9/11 comission's report that there was evidence that a couple of passengers (maybe only one??) in the first plane to hit the WTC stood up and began to fight back but were knifed. I find it fascinating that there has been such little progress on the anthrax letters. The first time I heard of that first guy who contracted anthrax, I thought it had to be related to the hijackings. Seemed like perfect timing-prolong the terror, etc.

I remember newspapers, Rolling Stone, Billboard, etc making a big deal about Dylan's Biograph in 1985, claiming it to be the first box set for a rock artist.
-
I believe the Dylan Biograph was first, wasn't it? 1985 vs 1988 for Clapton. Speaking of Clapton, I enjoyed the Layla box set, which had a full disc of studio jams (one involving most of the Allman Brothers too), which isn't always the most thrilling listen but is still interesting

You are exactly right. Box sets for rock bands work best when they are an improvisational band anyway, like King Crimson, or some of the supreme Allman Brothers.

BORDERS BUY 3 CDs AND GET THE 4TH FREE
GregK replied to blue-note-ojc's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I think I made out pretty good on this deal. I had a 15% coupon that I was going to use to get Coltrane's Sun Ship, but once I got in there I noticed the 3/1 free deal, so I added Ascension, the Olatunji Concert and the Coltrane Quartet Plays, and I convinced the cashier to apply the 15% to the total (he wasn't supposed to, but he called the manager over), so I think it averaged out to about $12.50 or so per disc! not bad for those Impulse! discs, which are usually around $17.99 or $18.99 -
organissimo wants to play in YOUR TOWN

I believe the Derek Trucks Band is playing the Magic Bag this month -
EMG didn't do much for me the first few times I listened to it, unlike 2vNature. I'll have to go back and check it out again after reading some of the responses here. I would like to say that my favorite Dan period is still the earliest, the first 3 records especially. Just some great songwriting, and that guitar on Reelin' in the years!!! Wow!!! I read somewhere that Jimmy Page named that song as having the best guitar solo that he'd heard. I also like a lot of Katy Lied

how fast is CD universe's shipping? If I pre-order, will I get it on Tuesday, release date?
-
King Crimson-Great Deceiver, followed by Epitaph (the 4-disc version) Tom Petty box is pretty good, half of it is outtakes, and a great booklet; I also like the Springsteen Tracks box, for the first 3 discs anyway. And the Johnny Cash Unearthed box is very good. Outtakes from the American Recordings!

organissimo wants to play in YOUR TOWN

I know of a great club called the Firefly Club in Ann Arbor.......no wait, you've been there. How about the Bird of Paradise? Oh yeah, that's shut down......guess I can't help you!! But if you can score something in Montreal, that would be great for you guys. Really cool town and lots of knowledgeable folks who would be in to your sound, so the crowds would be good. -
Just earlier tonight I got so frustrated at this f-ing Compaq that I told my wife how happy I will be when I can pound it into dust. She suggested getting one of these new Macs (she's been wanting one of the iMacs since they came out, what, 2 or 3 years ago?) instead.
-
Where do you put CDs? Chris, will you be getting one?
-
Damn, guess I'll have to toss my copy. And I was enjoying it, too......
-
60% off with no shipping: H4OD5 anyone who likes the Duane era Allmans has to get that Atlanta double disc set. Great versions of Whipping Post and Elizabeth Reed
-
I have a 15% coupon from Borders good for 90 days that I am saving for this set-hopefully with the discount it will be down around CDuniverse prices or lower. But, I like getting it in my hands the day of release (I hate waiting for shipping!!)
-
Seems like Verve could squeeze that onto 3 CDs, although it would mean breaking up the dates. Thanks for the update. Who owns the tapes, exactly? What is the problem? Looks like a good set though
