Make sure you check out the bar that has 75 cent beer happy hour and bacon (yes, cooked bacon for you to eat) all night. I wish I remembered the name

you could fill this list of worst songs with everything the Doors released. I think they were being generous by only singling out that pretentious piece of crap "this is the end!!!" terrible

didnt tampa trade him to the cubs? from there I believe he went to the dodgers and is now hurt or just unsigned. I know as a braves fan I got tired of him popping up to the infield or hitting dribbling grounders to the second baseman

Springsteen for all three. Why only three? Neil Young should be included too for This Note's For You and anything from Freedom

It's spring and a young man's attention turns to..
GregK replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Spring always means two things: start of baseball season and the NHL PLAYOFFS!! -
I was looking for the voting option of "very slow computer that crashes all the time, even when running XP"

what do you think of Neil's soloing on Change Your Mind? Nice long extended solos with his messy distortion-I love it!
-
I read somewhere that he admired Willie's singing, something about his phrasing was similar to Miles' own phrasing

with the discontinuation of the metal spine boxes, will the new one due this fall be the last of the metal spines, or will it be the standard packaging that is replacing them? And does anyone beside me really care?

I say, more is better. 2 discs are better than one, and box sets are the best. I try to always listen to both discs of a double in one setting

The strangest thing happened to me today......

man, that's awful. Like I always tell pedestrians who yell at me, I bike on the sidewalks because I don't trust ANYONE who drives on the road. Not one person. I have been buzzed very closely, once I swear I was missed by inches, when I have had to hit the road for a stretch. People just don't pay attention when they are driving -
83 with low humidity (34%) and sunny skies here!! Perfect day!

Did you check the US one??? I gotta say, being originally from Canada, Aric may have a point.....nowhere is perfect but the US is a great place to live and make a living!

Thanks b3-er!! I don't want to keep gushing but the performance of Desdemona on this new CD is just outstanding. I've been listening to this and the recent double disc archival release (released last fall, with Duane on it, from the Atlanta pop festival in 1970) a lot lately and Derek is just as impressive as Duane was back then.

I must be in the minority. I really like Wilco early, and especially like Tweedy's work in Uncle Tupelo and even Golden Smog, but with Summer Teeth I've gotten off their bandwagon, ever since Tweedy has been trying to turn into Brian Wilson. I really think their poppish sound now is so much worse than their country sound. I'm sure these recent records are fine, but nowhere near as interesting as AM parts of Being There

How many of us can listen to music at work?
GregK replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I can listen to music at work, but it's difficult to hear it sometimes, because I work in a lab that typically can have a lot of noise (from running water), and there are 2 other CD players that when playing can bleed into my area, so to listen to jazz is very difficult because you can't make out some of the wonderful subtleties, plus the crowd that I work with think Guns N Roses and Bon Jovi is "wicked, kick-ass" music, so jazz doesn't appeal to these people. -
man, you guys lucked out. I'd like to meet the ABB if I ever had the chance to
-
How did you get to meet him? Did he have much to say? Looks like a youngin'

The perfect cup of coffee

well, I finally got this CD today and I am just listening to it now. First impressions are that the guitars and drums are recorded/mixed WAY up front (thank goodness!!! Never been a fan of the organ over the guitars), and man oh man can that Derek Trucks guy ever play!!! He is absolutely on fire on this record. I hate using the cliched reviews but he really does have very similar sound to Duane Allman, only jazzier, with lots of modal playing in his solos. Real nice clean tone too. His slide playing on Desdemona (a great soulful blues with long solos from their last studio record) is jaw-dropping. It literally made me turn my head and just sit and listen until his solo was done, which only guitarists such as Duane, Dickey, Frank Zappa and Neil Young have been able to do for me. Gregg Allman's vocals sound weaker than they have in years for some reason, with some flat notes here and there and just an overall weariness. But that weariness actually fits some of the blues tunes well. They do a swinging, ripping version of Good Morning Little Schoolgirl, with some pretty impressive guitar from Warren Haynes. I thought I would not even want to listen to the ABB without Dickey, but man Trucks' playing is some of the best I have ever heard. It's too bad Duane is dead, but with Derek Trucks they have the next best thing. Now I'm going to have to go find all his solo records. I understand his first one has versions of Mr PC, So What and Footprints? I've gotta see this guy in concert

I'll never forgive Jeff Lynne for smothering his production sound all over the otherwise fine albums by the Traveling Wilburys, Tom Petty and George Harrison in the late 80s. They instantly sounded dated. It's like he wanted to make ELO wanna-bes with those records

so stop watching tv......

Willie put out an instrumental album of standards about 4 years ago, called "Night and Day", which was very good. I wonder if this "azz" instrumental disc coming out is from the same sessions
-
Chuck, I thought all you record-industry, producer types hated the record clubs because they practically give CDs away
-
What is an "alpha"? I don't know how to type that
