It hasn't been a long time that the kids are in NYC, but in teenage time it seems forever to them. Teenagers can be very resilient, but change of this type(moving a long distance to a very different environment) can be difficult to deal with on top of all the other things that teenagers deal with. One thing I would check into is how school is for them- are they having social issues at school, such as being treated like outsiders, not being considered 'cool' enough, etc. That may be fueling their desire to go back to AZ. Counseling may also help, as sometimes a third party without any stake may be able to clarify what's bugging whom and suggest ways to work it out. I'm not all that sure that moving them back to AZ will resolve everything for them in the way that they wish. That's my $0.02, and I hope things work out OK for all.

Guy, Let us know what you think of it- I was quite underwhelmed by the latest disc, but I have the feeling they are much better live.
-
Thank you all- I really appreciate the wishes.

Skid's advice is great, and I speak from personal experience. I've bought discs that had people I had heard OF, but never heard that turned out too be excellent. I've bought discs just because they were on sale or cheap that turned me in a whole other direction in exploring music. As Conn said, if you get something that doesn't tickle your fancy, sell it on the board or go Ebay. But be willing to experiment- you'll find some great treasures that way if you trust your ears.

I hope this was caught at an early stage. Someone I know had an aneurysm that was caught early and after a few months was back to normal.

How important is it to be appreciated?
PHILLYQ replied to fasstrack's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
My own take, perhaps cynical, is that if you expect to be appreciated you may be in for a letdown. I have to do what I do at work, at home, etc. regardless of whether or not anyone appreciates what I do. I certainly enjoy any appreciation that comes my way, but I don't really expect it and it doesn't stop me from doing what I need to do. Your mileage may vary. -
If you lean towards the avant garde, Downtown Music Gallery is very good. here's a link: http://www.downtownmusicgallery.com/Main/ If you're looking for basic mainstream/catalog, J&R is also very good, with frequent sales. here's a link: http://www.jr.com/

Old Conn's still got the goods....

.....got that right!! If she's dressed like that and she leans over the board, do you lose your concentration completely? I might be thinking of the next move, but it would have nothing to do with chess(maybe chest)! -
I saw the original MO in '72 & '73 at Central Park and they were mind-blowing both times! In '72 I was 16, and this was a great departure from the rock/blues I dug. As it turned out, MO opened the door to Miles and that opened the door to everything. In '72, I had bought the Inner Mounting Flame based on a reviewer in the Village Voice calling it the 'album of the year' . I played it nearly every day and it didn't click, even though I knew there was something of substance there. Go to the concert, and BANG- it all made sense. The show I went to in '73 was one of the nights that became the live album.

Hello all, I got an interesting email about the River2River Festival in NYC: Anthony Braxton’s Composition #19 - Marching Piece for 100 Tubas Internationally acclaimed for his seminal role in the development of late 20th century music, composer, saxophonist, and MacArthur “genius” Braxton premieres his parade piece for four bands of twenty-five tubas. 1:00pm-2:00pm. Oval Lawn & WFC Plaza. The concert is on June 4

Its probably correct that he signs with them, but as of now, it looks like people are jumping the gun. Both Clemens' agent and the 'Stros owner are denying the report. ...and that's a shock??? Isn't that standard practice these days, deny it all and then the next day hold a press conference to trumpet the thing you denied all along?

Thanks for posting that, Alexander. A truly tasteless and very funny parody, perfect after a crappy day at work.
