  1. I actually enjoy both of these sessions after listening to them yesterday. While it's true that they're not quite up to the standards of his past output, they're still very good sessions that merit repeated listens.
  2. ZT's Blues!! Now that's a Blue Note rarity...don't see that one too often!
  3. Thanks, Hank! Please post more groovin` numbers soon.
  4. Well, you turned me onto Pearson...and I passed on this Turrentine record when it was in print, so I figured now was a chance to get a nice new copy to enjoy!
  5. Sent an email re: Easy Walker and Wahoo!
  6. It will be a night of Scrabble with friends tonight...not much for the boozing myself.
  7. Name a board member in the last year (or since you've begun posting on Organissimo) that has helped further your knowledge of jazz (then give them bonus pattywacks). My vote is a tie to: Tom (Rooster Ties), Lon (jazzbo) & Jim (Jsngry). Thanks, gents!
  8. Thanks, fellas! I'll listen when I get back.
  9. Released by Victor Japan in 1998. Anyone willing to sell/trade?
  10. My girlfriend was really sweet this year and bought me... Groove Holmes - Legends of Acid Jazz Trudy Pitts - Legends of Acid Jazz Cannonball Adderley - Soul of the Bible ...and $25 more to spend on whatever I want.
  11. No, you're post was very helpful...I just wanted to get an idea what I'd be hearing in terms of music. For example, is Patton's unique organ sound still present? Or is it a dramatic drop-off from his Blue Note material?
  12. And the actual music?
  13. Can anyone comment on either "Minor Swing" or "This One's for J.A."? I just made a trade with a fellow board member, but I'm curious how thes music sounds.
  14. My girlfriend owns a big house there, which her family rents from her. It's nice to get away from the city for awhile considering everything is so busy here. In contrast, you couldn't here so much as a mouse toot there! So it's relaxing. Early 7am flight tomorrow!
  15. Personally, I'm headed to St. John's, Newfoundland for 10 days.
  16. "Soul Message" simply for the long version of "Misty".
  17. This CD is OOP now isn't it?
  18. So does this mean that my plan to force my unborn child to be the next Joey DeFrancesco is off the mark? Music is chicken soup for the soul, so no, go right ahead and teach him that fine art of playing.
  19. Yes, and I'm pro-choice as well, so there!!!!
  20. My opinion of these competitions is that they're pure lunacy!!! Can you imagine the pressure that some of these kids face from their parents to succeed? I kind of look at it like a "poor man's beauty competition" for parents. Because their kids are missing a few teeth, they choose to force them to do this instead. Did anyone see "Spellbound"? F--king ridiculous!!! On the other hand, if it's something that the child chooses to do all power to them.
  21. Here's my top 15 rap albums you should listen too... Boogie Down Productions "Criminal Minded" Boogie Down Productions "By All Means Necessary" Eric B & Rakim "Paid in Full" Public Enemy "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back" Marley Marl "In Control Vol. 1" Diamond D "Stunts, Blunts & Hiphop" Main Source "Breakin' Atoms" Outkast "ATliens" Mobb Deep "Infamous" Nas "Illmatic" A Tribe Called Quest "People's Instictive Travels & the Paths of Rhythm" A Tribe Called Quest "Low End Theory" Gang Starr "Step in the Arena" De La Soul "Stakes is High" Organized Konfusion "Stress: The Extiction Agenda" Enjoy!
  22. Or better yet, volunteer...sometimes you can find your career just networking in that field. I know the United Nations offers positions, and this really looks good on a resume. In short, my advice would be to steer clear of what your familiar with and try something new. Easier said than done I suppose, but nevertheless, if you're unhappy you should start small and do something you love (even if that means working the counter at a used CD store since I know you're a music nut!).
  23. Tom, While this may seem like a longshot, it may be worth a try. If your liberal arts college has a career center, chances are that they can help you design a really nice resume and provide you with counselling for career options. I know the University of Toronto (which I am graduating from this year) provides both students and alumni with this service. I'm not sure this is the case with other schools, but if it is, I would definately take them up on it as they often provide really good advice and, in some cases, contacts.
  24. I'm just listening to Charles Earland "Living Black!" for the first time in a little while...and this smokes!!! Great playing by Grover Washington on this record...and Earland has never sounded so inspired. Just thought I might mention that seeing as Earland rarely gets mentioned on this board.
