  1. Bennie Green "Soul Stirrin'" Conn for $8 Canadian. This is a truly great album!
  2. Well, I finally bought this disc! Man, it's heavy jazz-funk which is quite okay with me. "After Hours" is my favorite track, but "Root Down" sizzles...that is some heavy JB's type groove. And what in the hell were the Beastie Boys thinking!!!
  3. I actually came up with an efficient way to avoid handling JRVGs. My local used store gives away CD cases and trays. Thus, I picked up about 60 and simply put the JRVG/VICJs in them. That way I just leave the Mini LPs in the plastic sleeves and handle the CDs like they were in a regular case.
  4. There's something seriously wrong with you!!!! (...in a good way! B) ). Damn...Stan T. is one of the true greats of the sax. Maybe, the greatest pure tenor sax player IMHO.
  5. The same really must be said about her Blue Note work with her then-husband, Stanley Turrentine. Starting with "Dearly Beloved" (err...Little Miss Cott), these records groove hard!!! My favorite is actually "Never Let Me Go". I've owned it numerous times, but Morganized hooked me up again a few weeks back. It's been spinning ever since. I also really enjoy "Chip Off the Old Block" and "Hustlin'".
  6. Jim, Any impressions on Scott's work with Lockjaw? I think these are all underrated gems!
  7. Like the earlier Bobby Timmons' thread, I just don't think Shirley Scott is talked about very often. Thus, I'm dedicating this thread to her...what are some of your favorites? Mine: Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis "Cookbook Vol 1 - 3" "Queen of the Organ (At the Front Room)" Stanley Turrentine "Let It Go" B)
  8. This hasn't been released in the US. I believe it's only been released in Europe as part of the Warner Jazz Masters Series. I have the European version.
  9. Sent another email, re: Page One TOCJ.
  10. This album burns, PERIOD! Classic soul-jazz, and very difficult to find in any format. It's really too bad that Oliphant didn't record more...he fits nicely in with Green & Patton ala Ben Dixon. I have the Japanese Atlantic issue. It's worth the find if you can locate it. I personally love this album!
  11. IMHO, no electric piano sounds as good as either Herbie Hancock or Chick Corea on Miles' late-60s sessions. B)
  12. I've owned numerous Hendrix releases over the years, but I'm down to the bare minimum now that I will keep. "Are Your Experienced?" "Axis: Bold as Love" "Electric Ladyland" "Band of Gypsies" "Cry of Love" Good enough for me. All Japanese Experience Hendrix or Polydor issues.
  13. This thread has gotten out of hand. I did think it was funny, but now it's somewhat embarrassing. There isn't really much point in defending yourself over the internet. People are going to continue to harrass as long as they see that what they're saying is bothering others. Thus, if I were some of you I'd stop posting in this thread.
  14. It's also worth noting that Timmons lays down some heavy groove on both Cannonball's "Cannonball Adderley Quintet in San Francisco" and Nat Adderley's "Work Song". These two OJCs are fantastic!
  15. I'll vote for Baby Face Willette. His name gives off the impression that he was public enemy #1!
  16. Dustygroove used to have this CD for sale. I know this because Peter J. bought me one for the extra copy of "Live at Montreux" that I traded to him. I wouldn't quite compare this record to "What's Goin' On". On the contrary, it kind of reminds of the Headhunters work w/o Herbie, particularly "Survival of the Fittest". Still, it's a good funk record, though I wouldn't quite sing its praises like AMG does.
  17. I'll pass as well. One site is enough for me. B)
  18. Everything looks good, but no OBI. Does anyone need this one? Make a trade offer.
  19. Hey Folks, I spotted the OOP 5 LP Mosaic in a local store. The LPs & booklet looked crisp, but the box had some slight tears on the spine. Is there any interest out there for this one? How much is it worth? Maybe, a trade can be arranged. PM me.
  20. Well, he should be good seeing as he has my middle and last name!!!
  21. I don't know about you guys, but "Butter Chicken" & "Chicken Korma" light my fire!
  22. "Chun-King" is another great trio session, though there is some confusion regarding the year it was released. AMG says it was 1954, but it actually should say 1965. Worth picking up, especially in the Japanese Mini LP format.
  23. The only session that I've never heard from this period is "Everything I Play is Gonne Be Funky". I have no idea why I've slept on it over the years. I suppose the title sounds cheesy, so I tend to avoid it. That said, Lou's take on James Brown's "Say it Loud" is BAD!! This session should be a rare groove release.
