  1. A very nice pick up this week. Funny I owned only one of his releases on Blue Note "The Real McCoy" till very recently. In the past 2 weeks I've gotten "Time For Tyner", "Expansions" and the above title. This release features some very nice work from Lee Morgan, James Spaulding and Bennie Maupin.
  2. That's all I have to hear. Holding off for the moment but definitely my next purchase.
  3. Thanks John. I happened to see both sets on Amazon but when I saw the BGO label I wasn't certain if it was a legit issue or not? It appears correct me if I'm wrong, there are no issues here? I especially have come across many good responses to the first set you cite.
  4. I imagine he has been discussed here prior and please direct me to a relevant thread if needed. That said, I've enjoyed his past session work and the stuff he did with Elvin Jones on the Mosaic set. I'd like to confine the discussion right now to his CTI releases. I just finished listening to "Moon Germs" which I really enjoyed with some great Herbie on this date. What do you guys think of this and his other releases for the label? I also happened to see the box set available on Amazon which doesn't include "Moon Germs". Is that something worth considering? Thanks for your thoughts.
  5. He played a cool dude. He was badass. R.I.P.

Listening to this now on Spotify. Excellent sound quality. Looks like I will be adding this to the collection. Big surprise.
  7. Nothing. I have visited a dozen times and would love to live there in another life.
  8. Happy Birthday, Hans!
  9. I was also thinking about this release, but might wait for a better price than what is available presently on Amazon.
  10. I have a good chunk, not all of Hank's recordings from this era. Good chance I want in on this. Very exciting news.
  11. Ok, new to me. Not so I imagine to many of you fellas. Anyways, probably one of my nicer purchases recently. Scored this on Discogs for $12 and change and I am really enjoying hearing this. I guess one could classify this as cool school, correct me if I'm wrong? I don't own his Blue Note dates, so this was my initial landing point. I guess I should probably look into those recordings as well. That said, if you don't already own this, perhaps this might be something of interest? I imagine this will get numerous listens in the coming weeks. Very nice. Certainly a fine lineup for these sessions. August '56 and January '57. Please post your thoughts and impressions.
  12. Gosh, how I look forward to those days without the thought of having to work. Almost 32 1/2 years logged in, Paul.
  13. Some nice clarinet from Art on this album.
  14. Going back for a moment of the call on Reggie's home run, boy did that bring back memories for me! Growing up and listening to Curt Gowdy and Tony Kubek doing MLB games on NBC. Good times!
