  1. I've been listening to this the past few days and really, really enjoying this. Surprised to see no prior discussion here on Scott. Any other fans here? Any other albums I should be looking at? I was looking at his discography over at the AMG website and while he's been active as a sideman, he hasn't released a self led session since 2000. Kind of surprised since I like his chops, especially on this date.
  2. Tom, some overlap here with what you've already heard, but this Night Lights show covers Ayers' 1960s jazz recordings: Vibin': Roy Ayers in the 1960s Thank you, David, Will be checking out the show shortly.
  3. I just came across the playing of Ayers courtesy of the excellent Jack Wilson release "Something Personal". Ayers is fantastic here. This has spurred me into action as to what might be a good starting point concerning his releases. I would rather concentrate on his jazz oriented dates and you guys have given what appears to be excellent suggestions. What I like about the "Virgo Vibes" dates are the players. Joe Henderson, Harold Land, Herbie, Charles Tolliver, Jack Wilson and Donald Bailey. Sounds good to me.

  5. Any thoughts on his latest? Wasn't even aware he released a new album until I came across a pretty favorable review in the recent issue of Downbeat.

  8. While I use All Music Guide and Amazon as resources on potential purchases, it's you folks here on the board who convince me to take the plunge.
  9. I was listening to Phil Schaap's program this morning Bird Flight which featured some tracks from this album. The audio sounded great considering the time it was recorded, 1949. I'm mainly interested in hearing Parker although there are a few tracks featuring Ella Fitzgerald which also sounded quite good. I was wondering peoples comments on this release as well as some of the other JATP releases? What I particularly enjoyed about the collection which features Parker, is the raucous crowd on hand that night at Carnegie Hall. It sounds like they were having a great time! Again, your comments are welcomed and appreciated.
  10. I just don't get all this media attention he's getting. People literally falling over themselves to get an interview with him. Shameful. How are these people going to feel if he kills himself? The man is obviously sick and needs serious help. The media is NOT helping him! Just my 2 cents, YMMV.
  11. "Love For Sale" by Eric Kloss from the album "About Time" smokes!!!

  15. I recently got ahold of this recording and agreed it's a real good one. I'm glad to see many people here share the love.
  16. From the album Oceans in The Sky by Steve Kuhn, his take on Kenny Dorham's Lotus Blossom.
  17. Damn, I'm heading out shortly to see a movie. At least I caught some of this. Thanks for mentioning it.
  18. Interesting to come across this thread since a friend and I were just commenting the other day about the Ten Years After song "I'd Love To Change The World". Words from the opening verse: Everywhere is freaks and hairies Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity His comments were pretty much aligned with some of the posters here, found it somewhat offensive. Any issues with this? Ban worthy? I also want to add this link where Knoffler takes on the controversial word in the song "Money For Nothing". Scroll down half way: Money For Nothing
  19. The Complete Argo/Mercury Art Farmer/Benny Golson/Jazztet Sessions - Disc 1
  20. I remember during the late 70's the album City To City getting a huge amount of airplay on rock stations and I'm not just talking about Baker Street. It was a pretty damn good album and I still own it on vinyl. I will defintely be playing this at some point in the next day or so.
