  2. John, I tried PMing you but I wasn't able to send it. Looks like your inbox is full? Please contact me for further details on interested items!
  3. While I do hate the snow, I have to say I really enjoyed those photos. Very nice. Temps here on the cold side between 35 - 40 F the past few days and no sign of an immediate warmup. Looks like winter is on it's way.
  4. Happy Birthday, John!
  5. I just heard a track off this album a short time ago and it sounded quite nice. Zoot seems to in fine form and being a big fan, what do you guys think of this release? I already own a good number of Zoot's releases during this time period 70's/80's and think this might make a fine addition.
  6. Yeah, I'm the one to blame. Bill had reminded me of his birthday after a recent conversation via Skype and I forgot to mention it on the forum last Friday. Forgive me, Bill. Hope you had a great day.
  7. Thanks!
  8. Ok, excuse me, dumb question time. The import version is on the Sony label? The reason I ask is that Amazon doesn't state that in the product listing although I assume it is.
  9. I'd take advantage of the coupon except for the fact the last time I visted Borders cd inventory was pretty pathetic. That was some time ago and I don't know whether it's worth a 45 minute drive at this point for just 1 item whether it's a cd or a book. If Paul Secor reads this can you help me out? I'm referring to the store in Wappingers Falls.
  10. I've been picking up a few of Monk's Columbia/Sony releases recently and came across this date and was surprised to see it's OOP here in the U.S. Only available as an import at present. Well, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised with the state of the music industry these days. Apparently this must have been reissued some years back? It would be great to get ahold of this album. Anyone else surprised this isn't widely available, afterall it's Monk. I'd also appreciate your thoughts on this date. How does it compare to his other releases for the Colombia/Sony label?

  12. There's no issue with the fidelity of the recordings, to my untrained ears. They sound fine. It's a nice box for what it is -- a generous sampling (over 80 tracks) presented in an orderly, chronological fashion, and accompanied by a very nice booklet. Just to elaborate on the packaging, the individual discs (at least in my copy) come in those cardboard slips, not jewel cases. It doesn't bother me but you just need to be a little careful in handling them. Sounds like I'm sold on the set. Great value for the money. As for the cardboard slips, really not a big deal to me. I own a 33 disc Haydn symphony cycle with cardboard slips.
  13. My condolences. Sounds like you were a very lucky man to have known her.
  14. Oh boy! I was just talking to a fellow board member yesterday that I had to seriously clamp down on my spending and now I come across this. Oh, this isn't going to be easy especially that I'm off from work all week!
  15. Thanks for the recommendations, fellas. I was curious about the Proper box set since it seems pretty comprehensive featuring recordings from many different labels. Despite it's shortcomings on say packaging, are the recordings of good quality? I seem to have run across criticisms of the Proper label in the past.
  16. I'm glad I came across this thread. I happened to hear a track off this album yesterday while listening to the KSDS program Jazz West Coast. The host happened to mention the impressive lineup of players and I figured having enjoyed what I just heard, I would see if there was any prior discusion of this release on the forum. Glad to read the many positive responses especially after reading the lackluster review from the AMG website. Looks like I will be getting this one in the not too distant future.
  17. Earlier today I had the opportunity to hear some of Coleman Hawkins performances from the 1940's featured as part of the WKCR Coleman Hawkins Birthday broadcast. What I'm interested in is if anyone can make specific recommendations on releases I should look for featuring performances from that era? Not sure where to start? Thanks as always.
  18. The only affordable option right now for The Hap'nin's is the mp3 version which is available through the Concord Music website. Click Here Probably not what you're looking for but I thought it was worth mentioning. Good luck.
  19. John, I hope you see this since I can't seem to send you any PM's. Any chance you still own Steve Kuhn's "Oceans In The Sky"? At one time it was listed for $7. Still good? Please let me know? Thanks.
  20. The Mongtgomery box is available for all through Amazon (seller Newbury Comics) for $69.99. I couldn't help myself. Crap, don't tell me that! I recently coughed up over twice that via the Mosaic/True Blue welfare plan. Great box set nevertheless. :tup I seriously have to stop trolling these bargain threads. This sounds awfully hard to resist.
  21. FWIW, I received "For Basie" in the mail a few days ago and it's a real good one. The playing of Shad Collins on this date is outstanding. Quinichette is quite good as well. I think I enjoy this album moreso than "Basie Reunion".
  22. If there's any doubt about the email's authenticity, it's not a bad idea to call Paypal directly and save yourself alot of grief.
  23. Happy Birthday, Paul!
  24. Happy Birthday Professor Shorthair!
  25. "Glad I Met Pat" by Duke Jordan from the album Flight To Denmark.
