Oh boy! I was just talking to a fellow board member yesterday that I had to seriously clamp down on my spending and now I come across this. Oh, this isn't going to be easy especially that I'm off from work all week!

Thanks for the recommendations, fellas. I was curious about the Proper box set since it seems pretty comprehensive featuring recordings from many different labels. Despite it's shortcomings on say packaging, are the recordings of good quality? I seem to have run across criticisms of the Proper label in the past.

I'm glad I came across this thread. I happened to hear a track off this album yesterday while listening to the KSDS program Jazz West Coast. The host happened to mention the impressive lineup of players and I figured having enjoyed what I just heard, I would see if there was any prior discusion of this release on the forum. Glad to read the many positive responses especially after reading the lackluster review from the AMG website. Looks like I will be getting this one in the not too distant future.

Earlier today I had the opportunity to hear some of Coleman Hawkins performances from the 1940's featured as part of the WKCR Coleman Hawkins Birthday broadcast. What I'm interested in is if anyone can make specific recommendations on releases I should look for featuring performances from that era? Not sure where to start? Thanks as always.

The only affordable option right now for The Hap'nin's is the mp3 version which is available through the Concord Music website. Click Here Probably not what you're looking for but I thought it was worth mentioning. Good luck.

John, I hope you see this since I can't seem to send you any PM's. Any chance you still own Steve Kuhn's "Oceans In The Sky"? At one time it was listed for $7. Still good? Please let me know? Thanks. -
Are there any box bargains currently available?
Tom 1960 replied to GA Russell's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The Mongtgomery box is available for all through Amazon (seller Newbury Comics) for $69.99. I couldn't help myself. Crap, don't tell me that! I recently coughed up over twice that via the Mosaic/True Blue welfare plan. Great box set nevertheless. :tup I seriously have to stop trolling these bargain threads. This sounds awfully hard to resist. -
FWIW, I received "For Basie" in the mail a few days ago and it's a real good one. The playing of Shad Collins on this date is outstanding. Quinichette is quite good as well. I think I enjoy this album moreso than "Basie Reunion".

If there's any doubt about the email's authenticity, it's not a bad idea to call Paypal directly and save yourself alot of grief. -

Anyone familiar with these guys? A friend of mine was playing some of there music at work today and it really caught my ear. Horn driven, funky, psychedelic, very modern, I really like it. From what I've seen 2 of there 3 releases were released on the Daptone label. Your input would be appreciated.

A friend of mine sent me this link knowing I was a Dodger fan and would appreciate it. Love him or hate him, this is some pretty funny stuff. NOT FOR THOSE WITH SENSITIVE EARS!!! Tommy Lasorda Rant

I happened to come across this thread since this is now along with "Reach Out", one of the only Hank's Blue Note's which has eluded me. From what I've read here "The Flip" is worth purchasing while "Reach Out" might be worth passing up. Looks like I can pick up a used copy for a reasonable price.

I was fortunate enough to purchase this recently in the "Offering & Looking For" section of the forum. Definitely an underrated Hank date. Enjoying this alot.

Mega cd sale continued. Hard to find items
Tom 1960 replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Thanks Paul. Another happy customer. Discs look to be in great shape. I wish I took care of my collection as well as you have. -
The funny thing about the review is that's included on the eBay listing. Not a great way to promote your product if you ask me?

Cool! It looks unanimous.

I was interested in this post Blue Note 1957 release on the Bethlehem label until I came across a brief review from Downbeat which described his piano on the session as out of tune. Any truth to this? FWIW, All Music Guide gave the release a very positive review. Help me get through this confusion. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm careful of what I eat although I don't try to feel too guilty about it when I indulge on things I know aren't the best for me. I'm what you call an exercise fanatic. I work out 6 days a week. 4 days with the weights, 2 days on the road bike. I'm 6 foot 2 1/2 and currently 185. I lost 15lbs. recently due to some serious training this past summer for a century ride(100 miles) which I completed for the first time in September. At this point heavens forbid, I'm looking to gain some(most) of the weight back. Yeah back, imagine having that sort of problem? I could cheat and eat alot of fatty foods in order to accomplish that, but that's not a route I'm comfortable with. I'll probably drink more protein shakes and eat small but more frequent in between meals in order to get back to where I want to be. In terms of my everyday diet, I would never consider myself any sort of fanatic, although others do. I eat normal foods like most people. I'm a meat eater. I enjoy cooking on the grill. Steaks, burgers, chicken breast(skinless) are the norm. 1 big pasta meal once a week. Fish once a week. Salads are pretty much a regular staple, although I've recently converted away to some extent on the creamy salad dressings. Love my blue cheese dressing. Breakafast is usually 2 eggs, oatmeal and coffee. Coffee is probably my one vice in life. I really enjoy my coffee. Lunches are pretty much standard since I eat at home everyday. I have a couple of sandwiches with usually hopefully good quality lowfat/low sodium meats. Like my cheeses too although I try not to go too overboard with that. My cholesterol was borderline up to a few years ago, but has since been on the decline. Desserts? Not really, although the wife on occasion will make something up when we have company over or if we happen to go out for dinner and the wife wants to split something with me.
