Neil Young solo acoustic tour w/ Bert Jansch!!
Tom 1960 replied to Chalupa's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I guess 150 bucks might be a bargain compared to the upcoming Roger Waters "The Wall" tour. Tickets for the show in Toronto for example range from $175 - $712!!! -
It's good to be the King. Have a great day Ubu.

Got the bike ride in today, under less than ideal conditions. Barely 50 degrees and pretty much overcast skies. Feels cold after the recent warm spell we had.

50 degrees and dreary. At least it's not raining right now. Hoping for sunny skies tomorrow for my bike ride.

I was talking to a co-worker this morning about Neil's upcoming Palace Theatre date in Albany, NY.. According to him tickets are running in the neighborhood of $150. I think not. -
LF: Mosaic Select Pacific Jazz Piano Trios
Tom 1960 replied to alppila's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Well this will make you sick. I happened to come across the Jazz Trios collection over the weekend on eBay and noticed little interest in it. I figured I would keep an eye on it and signed up to receive updated bids. Well, I got busy yesterday and missed the email and by the time I came across it, it sold for $88! I would have easily paid $100 to get this set. Sucks, but that's the breaks. -
Johnny, I hope to make the show in Tivoli, NY on May 8. I live just 20 - 25 minutes away. No promises, but I will do my best.

Zoot Sims- I Wish I Were Twins Zoots Sims - Suddenly It's Spring After recently purchasing Warm Tenor and If I'm Lucky, both releases which feature Zoot with Jimmy Rowles, I decided to snap these up as well. For some reason the price for I Wish I Were Twins has skyrocketed in the past few days. I was lucky enough to pay only 4.99 plus shipping from eBay/Newbury Comics. Suddenly It's Spring also from Newbury for 9.99.

You're definitely not alone. Count me in as well. -
Dodger fan here. From my vantage point, because they made very little off season moves to improve the ball club, mainly from the ongoing divorce drama involving team ownership, they are no longer a lock for the division title for a 3'rd consecutive year. Frustating for me is that no moves were made to improve there starting pitching which I have noted over and over again is there one major weakness. Just look at the past 2 post season appearances against the Phillies and that pretty much sums it all. Billingsley and Kershaw to a lesser degree are question marks and whether Padilla can replicate the last 2 months of last season is open for debate. If they ever wish to move up to the next level, they need pitching and quality starters. The hitting up and down the lineup is pretty solid and that includes Manny since I doubt will have a down season since declaring this will be his final season with the Dodgers. It's all about pitching with the Dodgers and that will determine how far they go this year.

Hey Frank! Looks like you'll be playing at The Falcon in Marlboro, NY on Saturday May 28. I hope to get the opportunity to see you perform. Maybe say hello. It's a real nice venue.

Bertrand, if you end up getting that Marantz, PLEASE let me know! I'm in the market myself for a new cd player. My old Yamaha doesn't always open when I hit the button at this point, sometimes taking 5 or 6 attempts before it finally opens. The Marantz looks like a great unit and it comes highly regarded on the Crutchfield website. My preference is Yamaha products but the selection is limited and for the most part out of my price range. The Marantz would fit in nicely.

A quick (personal) update ...

Good luck with your recovery. Sounds like you deserve it. -
I take this to mean that extreme heroin use is in evidence in the grooves? Does this mean that everyone was wasted? Or is it simply a reference to the prevalence of heroin use among the players? Is the playing sloppy because of heroin use? I'd really like to know what you mean by "most heroin records". I think this is the second best 50s Dexter recording, behind Daddy Plays the Horn with Kenny Drew (granted its a small group of 50s recordings, but those two records are awfully good, imo). If you dig Carl Perkins, its a no-brainer to snap this one up, Tom. That's good enough for me, Dan. Like I said, I have no expectations that it even comes close to his 60's Blue Notes of which I own all of them. I'm cool with that. The Stan Levey date I already own and agreed is a good one. At some point I'm gonna get Daddy Plays The Horn also. Thanks for the help guys.

Any thoughts on this release? I realise Dexter recorded only a handful of sessions during the 1950's and while I understand it can't possibly match his later Blue Note material, I'm curious. I'm especially interested since Carl Perkins is on the date, a fav of mine. Can't get enough of that guy!

Contemporary Rootsy Americana-y Type Stuff
Tom 1960 replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Miscellaneous Music
If you want to hear some good rootsy blues, check out Broke And Hungry Records. Jeff Konkel who runs the label is a regular contributer over at Blindman's Blues Forum and a good guy. -

I was listening to a local radio station this morning and they have a 2 hour program on Saturday's called Acoustic Breakfast. This weeks featured artists were the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Great name BTW!
