  1. No s***! My job requires to me work outside(mailman) and I already have a negative attitude. Well another 11 years and maybe I can retire.
  2. I've been meaning to get ahold of that Earl Hooker bio. I can't imagine a band featuring both Earl and Otis together. I would've loved to heard those guys. Two of my favorite blues guitarists hands down. Great pics BTW, of Fred and Odie.
  3. I thought Paul Rogers filling in for the late Freddie Mercury was a strange fit.
  4. I just got off the phone after hanging on for close to 45 minutes trying to speak to Norton with no success. For the past 5 days, I've had difficulty accessing my email account which happens to be Outlook Express. The only way I can access it at this point is if I temporarily shutdown my firewall program and only then will the emails be accessed. I called Time Warner which offers Road Runner and they offered me this temporary solution. They suggested I call Norton and was provided a 800 number. Apparently they're being deluged with calls after a recent live update which seems to be a root cause of the problem. Anyone else encountering this problem and wish to offer any advice? I can't stay on the phone forever. Thanks.

    Saga Blues

Wow, thanks Brownie for posting this. Looks like they have some very interesting releases. The Bluesman Spirituals anthology is of particular interest to me along with the Lightnin Hopkins release. Very nice.
  6. Hi Shawn. Not sure if you own this already, but I just received in the past week from yourmusic.com 'Tough Tenors' with Johnny Griffin. It's a good one my friend and at $5.99 you can't go wrong.
  7. HWright, let me get a plug in for Blindman's Blues Forum and suggest you visit that site as well and post your inquiry. I know a few guys on the forum there who are very knowledgable and might be able to provide you with some additional info. Just a thought... Just click on the link in my signature. Tell 'em I sent you.
  8. I try to wait until most of the leaves fall before venturing out and beginning what has become a favorite activity of mine next to shoveling snow (sarcasm). There seems to be less of them this year as a result of a developement being built behind my property. Unfortunately a large number of trees have been removed from the once wooded property. The city I live in allows us the option of either bagging the leaves in paper bags(no plastic!) for curbside removal once a week or simply dumping the leaves in a large pile next to the street for eventual removal. The downside is the neighbor's leaves across the street eventually find there way into my yard for me to further rake.
  9. Female stylist here. She's been cutting my hair for nearly 15 years. She's very attractive which of course has nothing to do with why I keep going back. I usually spend $25 which is abit on the high end, but I don't mind paying it. You get what you pay for. She's actually responsible for setting me up with a girlfriend of hers years ago, who eventually became my wife.
  10. The temps here neared 70 early in the day, before the big plunge with the arrival of the rains. Having a job which requires me to work outside(postman), it was most likely my last opportunity to break out the shorts till next spring. It's been a great fall for the most part here in the northeast.
  11. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Roots and Herbs Kenny Dorham - Whistle Stop
  12. I'm very pleased to have come across this thread. I'm presently listening to 'Four' by Hampton Hawes which many I'm sure already know features the fine work of Mr. Kessel. I really enjoy his work on this album and was looking for some recommendations on his individual releases. Looks like I have a few already to go by. Thanks.

    Sonny Rollins at 75

For those interested, here's a link to National Public Radio's website which features a recent 7 minute interview with Rollins saluting Sonny's 75'th birthday. Must have Real Player or Windows Media Player. NPR Website
  14. Happy birthday, Paul. Hope today was a great day for you.
  15. Well I for one, would be interested in purchasing those earlier sets I missed the boat on. I came along late in the game and envy you guys who were fortunate enough to grab those amazing sets when they were available. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be interested, but the likelyhood of that happening at this point is probably nill.
  16. Late to the game, but I joined tonight. Really exciting stuff for a guy who has to adhere to a budget. Man, you just can't go wrong with 5.99 a disc. My first shipment: Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Like Someone In Love Johnny Griffin and Eddie Lockjaw Davis - Tough Tenors
  17. Thanks to all for the many great recommendations. I've seen the McKusick available from Amazon used for $17.85 for 2 discs which is a pretty darn good price. I may take the plunge with this one and if it's to my liking, followup on some of the other suggestions. The Hank Jones 'New York Rhythm Section' sounds like a good choice as well. Again, thanks fellas.
  18. Hey guys. This gentleman I could use some recommendations on. I think the only thing I have in my limited collection of his guitar work is some session work he did for Coleman Hawkins on the album 'The Hawk Flies High'. How about giving me few albums you feel are worthy of consideration? Thanks.
  19. I'm very glad to see the Hank Mobley set is still available. I already own a good amount of his recordings from Soul Station going forward, but next to nothing prior. Looks like a great Christmas present for me. Thanks to all on this forum for making mention of this excellent set.
