  1. These seem to be from vinyl (I could be wrong though...), that's surprising. But it's great to see a music supporter such as Corbett still devoted to McPhee's early works.
  2. Does anybody know how much or how many of the '64 Jazz Workshop live concerts were professionally recorded, by well regarded recording engineers? Seems like almost everything I have heard was at best perhaps just enough for a medium quality radio broadcast.
  3. From the set's discography page: Producer’s note: There are instances of distortion in all of these live recordings, most noticeably in Meditations On Integration from the Monterey concert. Every effort has been made to improve the audio on all this music to best of our ability. I hope Monterey is not taking up space on this set just because of the $200+ prices on amazon. I sold my copy here on the board I think a few years ago, I thought the problems were broader than on just one track, but I could be wrong. I listened to one of the Enja discs last night, sound was excellent. I'm in for the box, regardless.
  4. Is the Montreux record good?
  5. Ray Davies = peerless storyteller. My favorite tune is Autumn Almanac. May God save The Kinks.
  6. KU: My post was written and uploaded before I saw your post on the new/live. I need to hear that, never have.
  7. Mingus - Tijuana Moods. This was '89-'93. I could recite the whole path/web from there.... Getting a few Mosaic sets helped, as became eager to sponge up the written perspectives. Read Swing to Bop. And I was a car (reverse) commuter, driving 60-90 min each way listening to Schaap, Gribetz. And I liked going to clubs while my ears were getting big. Best night was Blackwell's group at the Vanguard.
  8. Discussion threads on dead.net run by Blair Jackson are currently touting and asking opinions about the 1990-95 ("after Brent") band, seemingly on behalf of Rhino. Fair enough, though it would be a huge bummer for the majority of the older fan community, in my opinion, if any of the subscription series releases featured that music. I think the releases this year have been pretty good (though unimpressive to intense, opinionated '77 and '74 obsessed), though not featuring much visceral, avant-wooly Dead that some of us really treasure. Instead, we've gotten consistent quality tour sets that solidified their live reputation in the mid 70s, fine by me. I've chimed in ten times on that board about how bad the very late era GD sounds on disc, been asked to STFU, and ok I will stand down. Your turn if you care.
  9. Additions and price trims, more to come over the weekend. Thanks
  10. ECM's better days included OM on Japo, yet all the CD era has seen is a mild one disc retrospective. I'm listening to all four Japo LPs todsy and I love this sound, quite equally driven by all members of the group. I say get these records when you see them.
  11. If I list something you asked about, don't worry, you still have a priority request and I will get back to you.
  12. Some adds and price changes as of Feb-08-2013 Immediate payment please for the items (after you commit to buy, I will true up final cost before mailing). Prices do not include basic mailing $4 for 1-3 discs, $0.75 per disc after that, UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE, to CONUS, risk is to the buyer. I don't send jewel cases unless noted. If you want better/secure mailing, we will negotiate exact cost. Non CONUS buyers do your research and tell me what exact shipping charges you are willing to pay, and to bear all risk. I can take the shipping risk, but at a $10-20 cost usually, and with a signature at your end. As new, except where noted. More to come, thanks. 13. I am selling about 85% of my CD collection in the next few months, fyi. Jazz, rock, gotta make room and $$. Some of the artists I have collected obsessively include Derek Bailey, Fred Frith, Cecil Taylor, Ran Blake, Andrew Hill, Sam Rivers, AEC, Brotzmann, labels Soul Note, Black Saint, ECM, JRVGs and TOCJs. A list will be forthcoming, but if there are things you may be hot for, please PM. No bids are unreasonable, as long as you don't take offense at ask-prices. I want to move this stuff but I don't sell CDs for less than $7 because I can get that typically at the flea mkt; if am wrong and clearly out of line please let me know. I may keep 1-2 items by my favorites, will price those unreasonably and accordingly.... Lots of vinyl here too (Hiroshi Tanno customer...), selling less of that but I live near downtown Brooklyn if anybody wants a look. Thanks, Dan
  14. If I rip to FLAC with PowerAMP, is that the same as creating an exact digital image of the disk with a copy utility? Is there a switch or setting in PowerAMP for that purpose? Thanks
  15. I don't mean to jump the gun too much on discussing the Carter-Bradford quartet, but: Has anyone noticed or discussed the similarity of the Close Encounters of Third Kind "theme" to CB's terrific "Encounters"? Can't merely be coincidence, sorry. Obviously this is for the Coincidence or Quote/Tribute threads or both, feel free to move. Cheers Update: I searched this and found it discussed on an old blog ~2008. Hmmmm. But here, however, is a true coincidence: While building a rather random drag and drop playlist on my iPhone, I blindly added Jimmy Lyons' Wee Sneezawee right in behind Mode For Joe. Now that is freaky. For the Quote/Tribute thread.
  16. I like PM's early and easier-to-locate Slam recordings as much as his obscure self-released series (sold all of those back to DMG in harder times). Try Babu.
  17. I still say this is a great, wonderful thread, offering steady good news and cheer and hope. Usually.
  18. JLH's reissues will be the only only exceptions to my current buying hiatus Yup.
  19. This listing really takes me back. Way back. Not the music, but the concept of crazy sellers and crazy buyers getting together online and doing crazy transactions. I've had two crazy buyers in the last year and I am looking for any other means of selling from now on. Stoop sale would be better. Ebay -- only when you absolutely, positively have to have it, or get rid of it.
  20. Go get a fat CD wallet and fill it up, including the fine old booklets. I use these for weekends away, esp. in the car. You can also donate to libraries and get a small tax deduction, yes?
  21. For something I search for over a period of years, I am comfortable paying up. It usually just means I will be selling some stuff ahead, and be out of the purchasing market for a few weeks or months. Waiting for something to be reissued is a low probability bet at this point. How many shitty CDs did you buy over the past ten years? Plenty. So when a great one comes along, it's worth 2-3x a single shitty or average disc, at least. If not, then I think you may be misjudging an opportunity. Just get your long sought disc, and then lay out and spend some time with it, and you'll come to a conclusion one way or another pretty quickly I think.
  22. I'm in. In my mind $30/disc for a great box project with some dazzle repro/images, informative text is right around the upper limit. You are certifiably dedicated to quality and fans of the music, thank you. Never heard Daley, I am sure I will love it.
