  1. Thanks I am using XP Pro. But I find nothing convenient about having to source from a computer to play on my living room system... No way to burn hi-res files to a DVD? No 2-channel DVD-A for hobbyists?
  2. Jim Rice, Darryl Strawberry, Reggie Jackson, I saw these guys hit monster home runs. One can easily recall the flight I think. That's what these accounts of mighty Killebrew sound like. Not all home runs are made the same.
  3. I really love several 90s titles with Christy Doran (one is solo), and I am surprised Hat keeps skipping over the Braxton Santa Cruz title. Mine is now gone (really, forgot to burn it!), sold in anticipation...
  4. Remember tape decks, mini-discs?? I have a feeling that with the death of the CD and resurgent demand for vinyl, home recording could make a comeback. I want to make great recordings of LPs again. Too nutty?
  5. Be good to those records (worth $ thousands), don't compromise on the tonearm or cartridge. I won't sleep well now until this is resolved. Keep us in the loop please.
  6. Can I record my vinyl to DVD-R at high resolution? (And does anybody here prefer that to CDs?) I have a universal player now, not likely to hook up a desktop computer to my audio system, but if I had the right sound card, it would be straightforward to record from turntable to phone preamp to computer, yes? Is there a recommended card and software package to get? Thanks, Dan
  7. Jeter and Posada have to lead by example, that's maybe not all they have left, but much of it. I don't imagine Torre or Showalter or Martin or Lemon or Houk would have worried much about the "consequences" of moving ineffective hitters down the lineup. More generally, IT has got to be what the skipper says, no matter the team, that's baseball.
  8. Curtis Fuller!!!! undersung Composer!!!! excellent record
  9. I have to say, after less than a week of some intensive selling on Ebay, that the buy side needs some manners. Charge for all your mailing costs I say, because abuse / multi-reaming by eBay, buyer, bidder, watcher is the status quo.
  10. I never knew The Animals covered The Other Side Of This Life. I look forward to hearing that. Did they cover any other Fred Neil? Who here saw this group back in the day?
  11. Canadian guy just told me that he is only willing to pay $4-5 mailing cost for a double CD. I told him I need $12 to send it Priority. Moving on.
  12. I would get a good Stanley Cowell collection, anybody's. Since reading these posts, I grabbed used copies of what I could for reasonable bucks: Piano Jazz series disc with McPartland and SC's Maybeck Recital. Wow, he is exciting, so agile with blues and composition. I want to hear more. Thanks for the prompts here. I have SC's Blues For The Vietcong on vinyl. Turntable went down a few years back and I never played it. Maybe now though.
  13. Skype is really good, easy to set up, and terrific for distance video calling with your loved ones or friends.
  14. I regard that page as pretty stale, I check it every few months. I really love Garden, Braxton, Christy Doran. Maybe Jump Up can include that Murray piece that's on the vinyl.
  15. Curious about Class D ball from the Necciai post, I came upon this labor of love: http://minorleaguesource.com/total.htm Amazing count of Class D leagues. Baseball, thank goodness, looks/smells/plays pretty similar top to bottom as a sport and spectacle. We've been having fun the past few years watching the Cyclones in Brooklyn, I HIGHLY recommend minor league baseball.
  16. I don't know the music very well on Strata East or Freedom, because neither has been easily available. The artist roster appears good enough for me to assume that I would jump in on both for good reasonably priced reissues. I listened to an import edition of Clifford Jordan's tremendous In The World twice this week (after seeing the post about Cowell.... I know, he's on the other S/E Jordan), and what a shame that so few of us who have spent heavily on jazz reissues have had this great date in their hands. A shame. I really like Charles Brackeen, but never heard a good copy of Rhythm X. Don't need box sets, don't even need discs now that I have experienced some 24-bit at home (thanks Kevin B!). It just seems like if there's any life left in jazz reissues, good labels that got passed over in the CD era should get a look by the experts.
  17. More Strata East and Freedom. And I know downloads and streaming would seem to be the antithesis of Mosaic treatment, but I think it might be cool for them to try short-form video or still photos with high resolution sound. Almost like on online documentary channel for true blue jazz fans. I definitely want some 24-bit Mosaic jazz orchestra product, I know that much.
  18. I just made my first sale on discogs.com to a guy in Berlin. I have no idea how to realistically estimate mail costs around the world. Any good benchmarks to use? I won't eat mailing costs and I said so in my profile, but it would be good to be able to quote within a few bucks. I want a to collect a signature on anything more than $20. Thanks, Dan
  19. I listened again last night, so good I want the vinyl (and because I like vintage ECM). I am looking for CDs of Arthur Blythe's Illusions, or Sunny Murray - Hommage To Africa. Sorry about the rifle shot requests, and feel free to PM your pitch if interested. In Passing is a fine record, DEFINITELY worth the $8 download (if you must). Cheers, Dan
  20. I think it's fine to ask, especially since its Mosaic (friend of the music, imo) we're talking about. I know a guy who gets everything Rhino issues because of some stale credential or contact. Just sits unopened in most cases. It's for "retirement."
  21. The first two GUO Japo titles are available as downloads. I noticed that Sam Rivers' Contrasts is listed, with a cover image, on the ECM website. Other OOP titles, such as the Bailey-Holland session and Intergalactic Blow, and numerous other Japo titles, get no mention on the site. And others in prep for CD reissue are indicated as such (e.g. Conference of the Birds).
  22. I got nothin', no theory. Needle drop, no cover art, prominent and critically acclaimed work. Raises questions for me. No regional slur intended, sorry. You EU guys remain good jazz fans as far as I know (but you should know there's been some talk...).
  23. Nobody was ranting here but I will now. Most of us, including me, bought/buy all the needle drops of classic shit, shady and otherwise. But if you want to jump ugly, you and the EMI guys and their logo should get a room. Just because they are mega-corporate and put stuff out doesn't mean or not mean it's legitimate and the artists got paid etc., but I can sure question those important attributes of "provenance" with a reasonable post. Harumphhhhhfffft. Why aren't the source tapes used? Maybe they don't own the rights in the clear. Original artwork? The new cover bit on the reissue is often a nice try to dodge piracy litigation. Gotta give credit for that old EU ingenuity and elbow grease.
  24. Legality, legitimacy, and audio quality should not be subordinate to other goals. Shady needle drop reissues (which include those with big corporate label EU claims) really don't cut it. I have great CD bootlegs of Crisis, Mohawk, Horo LPs, you name it, but I would buy legitimate reissues from proper source material (even if no better sonically than boots) in a second. We all should.
