  1. I bought one of Markus' discs two weeks ago off my cab driver, who I liked immediately for his willingness to risk a ticket and pick me up in the drop off area at LaGuardia at midnight on cold weeknight. He cranked up something that sounded like it could be Mapfumo. It was loud enough for other cars to hear at 60 mph. I just went along with it for a few miles, then I asked what we were enjoying. I really like the electic disc I purchased, I played every day for about a week. I will edit this post later and indicate what I have etc.
  2. what's next? you might have some success with an OBO offering it at audiogon.com
  3. Did Sam Rivers and Jimmy Lyons play together and get recorded at Rivbea? I would sign up for some of that.
  4. Paying up for digital music is THE WORST, however, for a brilliant, independent maverick, it seems appropriate. I went for Henry Kaiser's "It's A Wonderful Life" ($5.99 emusic). Never on CD, and a great headphone experience anyway. Highly recommended.
  5. If you are just getting into mp3 and portable music, one thing that you will learn soon enough is that the software and file management matters as much as the hardware. Creative and Sandisk/Sansa offer decent overall electronics, and very weak software. I have found the Windows Media Player, as incredible as it seems, to be the best simple tool for managing a ton of music. I don't know the Zune players, but I would be surprised if $200 for their 32GB device isn't money well spent. The one great thing about the Sansa is the ease with which it will sort and integrate whatvever is on your pop-in SD card with the balance of stuff on the main device library. However the overall user interface is awful. And because Creative devices can't integrate SD/main content OR multitask while you may be enjoying any content on the SD card, they are a non-starter for me, $300 and 32GB Zen later.
  6. Yo sweet-bay: We would be way more impressed by removing the safety net, i.e. $0.99 starting price and no reserve. I mean this Bill Evans, no issue with awareness or obscurity, right? I have been watching prices for VG or better mono George Russell titles (I have two to sell) and they aren't getting much more than $30-75. On any given day down at the Jazz Record Center here in NYC, there is a bit of vintage Riverside to be had in good condition at average joe prices. Be prepared to be underwhelmed. Cheers
  7. last call on Plugged Nickel, AEC boxes, going to auction and some price adjustments
  8. My revised $65 offer of the AEC box, up for many months at $75-85, hasn't got a pulse. The market for great music: even dead-er than before...
  9. One of the very best post '78 shows: http://www.archive.org/details/gd80-11-29.wise.sacks.2409.sbeok.shnf
  10. This will thrill me. I recommend 6/14/69 on archive.org, not run of the mill. "Out of the river all ugly and green, came the biggest old alligator that I've ever seen! Teeth big and pointy and his eyes were buggin' out"... Hunter, Lesh and McKernan: hairy scary AND funny
  11. thumbs up to movie mars, blowitoutahere, and newbury. Newbury can be slow to mail, but always comes through. I have probably used moviemars the most, never a problem.
  12. I have such a Sam Rivers "Streams" LP, sub-glossy non-gatefold sleeve, not even a mid-weight vinyl, no reissue date. Anybody know this series?
  13. some additions, price trimming thanks for checking
  14. It's been a privilege to enjoy these Mosaic sets, it's often sad to give them up however you know the buyer is going to really get his ears off!
  15. How is the sound quality on "Monk In Bern"? Radio sourced? Thanks, Dan
  16. Right just a box and booklet, for that special CDR/DIY someone. Needs a postage-stamp size patch on the box cover. I was lucky to order a few new boxes/booklets back when Mosaic still had them. My favorite jazz set, and the only one I have never seen on vinyl for sale.
  17. Shipping will be extra and as close to exact as possible (prefer initial payment + postal true-up), best estimate based on U.S. 1st class/Priority is $8-10 for 1-3 records, then +$2 per additional LP/disc. You can also make your choice on service class. New York (Brooklyn) pickup always welcome, save all shipping costs.
