  1. I would accept any of several Road Trips editions + bonus discs for my DP 31, including Vol. 2 No. 3 - Wall of Sound. thanks
  2. Sorry but no PMs coming through, I must have set a switch or setting incorrectly. Working on it....
  3. I love many of Bailey's records, it seems cruel to recommend so many which are out of print. Of the Tzadik's (which are always in print, I think), Ballads and Derek and the Ruins are pretty cool. I prefer extreme isolation and headphones w/ solo Bailey, it's a heavenly place.
  4. Grado SR-80, still a stunning value for less than $100. For earbuds, I recently got custom plugs to go with my Etymotics, and I have never been so pleased with an easy upgrade.
  5. I bought numerous CDRs from Gerry about 10 years ago, when all of his Hat stuff was impossible to find. I thought it was COOL to pay money directly to the artist.
  6. shot in the dark here on a 1:1 trade, I have some holes in the collection... my dupe set is an original, like new GDM/Rhino 4 CD set, summer of '74 sound, three quarters 8/4/74 and the rest 8/6/74. As good as it gets for an archival release, the Philly show was great end to end and Jersey City excerpt is blazing. Fine booklet with contemporanous accounts of both shows and the wall of sound experience. ***Please note, no reissue offers, only the original GDM/Rhino sets please, and like new only*** Cheers, Dan
  7. Can I get a pre-order in for the 2013 blowout sale?
  8. Unsurprising. It's the pigs vs. the citizens again in NYC. I speak from experience. They really don't care about anybody's rights. Only that they get the paperwork right, record favorable data which compliments their bosses, and get out of town to family each day; god knows society forced them to choose this life, that seems to be the rationale for so much bad behavior. All take, no give, the worst class of entitled public servant we have in New York, and we have a few.
  9. A top fiver for me, i love so many of his records. Sam got a lot of shit done, we should all try as hard to be as engaged and faithful to a vision.
  10. Let's hope the daughters are motivated by good intent to see great LIVING artists and the families of DECEASED artists benefit again, albeit modestly, from their own work. Should we send the gals each some coin, "there's more where that came from", that kind of thing? I'm in.
  11. "bugged to a faretheewell" is google-able, but I didn't learn anything from cursory clicks
  12. Hello Jonathan How is the progress with licensing the Carter-Bradford Flying Dutchman material? Will that be your only project with the FD catalog? Thanks , Dan
  13. Great sounding unit, but its VERY slow to read discs, as in 30 seconds in many cases. Does your drawer fully extend in the open position such that you can insert and remove discs absolutely vertically? I have to slip the first 5/8" or so of every disc under the lip of the unit's face in order to lay them down on the tray. Thanks, Dan
  14. Shall we post some unctuous compliments as questions to you the seller or should we just jump in and bid and run prices up some? We're flexible.
  15. Brian is very mercenary. Several times in recent years I asked him through this board to find me a particular title, and he did, but instead of naming a price, he listed it for auction. So I would get in touch to ask what's up... He forgot. And then he did it again. He forgot, again. And then he did it again a third time. And so after the 3rd small humiliation, I don't ask for favors any more.
  16. Use FLAC and get the tagging right, check it and make sure it's the format you want. I like dbPowerAmp for ripping. Use good quality production drives with modular, redundant features. Someday you will probably store video and other precious things with your music, so I would approach this as infrastructure for your home/life.
  17. This is so black and white and not worthy of a thread. We really don't want to compensate bootleggers and people who lift art for their living, do we? There are plenty of grey areas around trading etc., i get that. But pirated goods for profit are bad for somebody (e.g. now less incentive for somebody to license Gryce work and do a quality reissue). Bad is bad and please no BS non-righteous indignation that this is somehow a stuck-up view. Really, PLEASE FUCK OFF if you think it's ok to buy and sell this for-profit stolen shit. It's not ok. And what's worse, you know it. Killing jazz some more, ya think?
  18. Based on my narrow tastes and experiences, i would say based on your budget you should try for, in order, Sugden, then Arcam, then Rotel, then NAD. These company all impress me as punching above weight. (I still find it hard to beat the joy I got from a NAD 3020 and large Advents.) And buy the best mini-monitors and sub you can. Speaker placement is where it's at, sit close.
  19. The first Tolliver select set, I love it. Thanks to board members who set me on it (and yes, lots of great Stanley Cowell throughout). I waited a long time to buy it from Mosaic when it came back in print and it is listed again as endangered. So don't wait.
  20. For the sublime '78 experience, it's DP 25. Really.
  21. nothing succeeds like a cruel ultimatum, well-played!
  22. a real talent, I love L.A. Turnaround and my friends say there are more gems in his catalog
  23. I was going to post advice regarding NAD, but it's too late. You've made a good decision I think. I am a loyal NAD customer since 1982 (amps, pre-amps, receivers), but I never used a NAD disc player until recently. I know the company has had quality problems. But I am amazed at how good my universal player from NAD sounds. I recently purchased it from a fellow board member. Cheers
