Serious pitching duel going right now in Tampa between the Phils & the Rays. Both starters have ERAs over 6.00. It's 4-4 in the bottom of the 2nd. Pass the Tums. Edit: make that 5-4 Rays in the bottom of the 2nd.

Coroner: Pain killer killed ex-Wilco member CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Former Wilco guitarist Jay Bennett died of an overdose of a pain killer, a coroner said Tuesday, and authorities are viewing his death as accidental. Toxicology tests showed the 45-year-old musician died from an overdose of fentanyl, Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said in a brief news release that noted the drug is found in patches commonly prescribed to treat chronic pain. The release did not indicate whether Bennett had used such a patch but Northrup told The (Champaign) News-Gazette that Bennett had a patch containing fentanyl on his back when he died May 24 after being found unresponsive in his home in Urbana, 110 miles south of Chicago. Northrup did not return a call from The Associated Press and his office declined to immediately provide a copy of Bennett's autopsy, saying the investigation remains open. more... http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment...ilcomember.html

The Philly Inky has some old photos up on their site. Unfortunately it's a Flash program so I can't link or download the photos. Anyway... there's one photo of old Connie Mack Stadium(Shibe Park) Where the A's and the Phils played. One of the photos has the field dimensions as left field foul pole 334ft., right field foul pole 331ft., and a whopping 468 feet to dead center!! Here's some more from Wiki... The park was the site of some special home run feats. Babe Ruth hit one to deep left-center on September 9, 1921, that cleared the then-single bleacher stand, went across the street, and hit a tree, over 500 feet away. On May 22, 1930, Ruth hit one to right field over the then-lower wall which landed in an alley behind the second row of houses, again over 500 feet distant. On June 3, 1932, Lou Gehrig hit 4 in one game here. Showing no favoritism, he hit two to the left field bleachers, two over the still-short right field wall, and a shot at a fifth with a deep fly to center (whose corner at that time was about 470 feet away), but the center fielder snared it on a running catch. In later years, Dick Allen hit some booming drives over the double-decked bleachers, in the general direction of the 1921 Ruthian shot.

So was he ruled safe or out?

Great trade for the Spurs. I don't know if it will be enough to get by the Lakers though.

The Phillies lost again today to the Orioles. That's back to back sweeps. At home. :rmad:

The Phillies are in a rough patch right now. Got swept by the Blue Jays today at home to go 1-5 on this home stand, 13-19 overall. Worse yet is that the injury bug has claimed another victim - Raul Ibanez (hammy) 15 days DL. Those are some big shoes to fill. The Phillies need to make a trade for #1 or 2 starter or they're done. And no more of the #4 or 5 guys(Moyer, Lohse, Blanton) that they usually get. The problem is there really isn't anyone available. Peavy is on the DL for an extended stay. After sweeping the Phils the Jays will probably hang onto Halladay. Oswalt is a possibility but scouting reports say he has lost a little velocity. Not good. Really pissed they didn't sign Derek Lowe when they had the chance in the off season. I guess that means Brad Penny will be serving up gopher balls soon at the Bank.

What incredible music.... Yes, someday I'll have to track down the later versions of it. Two Albums by Varese... Robert Craft conductor - Ionisation-Density, 21.5-Integrales, Octandre-Hyperprism, Poeme Electronique (Columbia, 6 eyes) A little scratchy but the music still comes through. Boulez - Ameriques, Arcana, Ionisation (Columbia, gray label/orange writing)

What live music are you going to see tonight?

Well after catching Organissimo on Tuesday night I was planning to stay in last night seeing how fuzzy I felt all day yesterday. So around 7:00pm a friend called w/ an extra ticket to see Dirty Projectors/Vieux Farka Toure/Skeletons. Had to go. Caught the last bit of Skeletons - they were okay, though I really didn't hear enough of them of them to base a stronger opinion either way. Next up was Vieux Farka Toure, who some of you might know is the late Ali Farka Toure's son. Vieux was amazing. Excellent guitarist, beautiful voice, and some killer songs. If he's coming to your area and you like this kind of thing then by all means go. Definitely a star on the rise. Dirty Projectors were excellent as too - well deserving of all the indie rock adulation that comes their way. Quirky songs w/ spazmatic guitar fills and angelic backup voices. Oh and they ROCK! Beat as hell today.... -

Tonight I'm going to see some organ trio. I think they're from Michigan. Can't remember their name. Supposed to be pretty good. -
Oh shit. No sooner than I post a query about his last name I get news in an email that Bert has canceled his entire North American tour indefinitely. Hope that he's okay. {{{Bert}}}

Those 2 are both scorching hot shows. I agree that it doesn't get much better than June of '74.

I did, it was pretty good through not great (to me) and very short...only about 35-40 minutes. Murray seemed to be lacking energy throughout the set (not sure of his age as I type this). Several patrons were pissed and started yelling out loud about it. Sunny came out to the mic and talked about being happy about getting the gig, shopping at flea markets and living in France and reminded us if we didn't like America, we could live there too....kinda strange. Odean Pope, who played with him was good. m Thanks for your reply. I was wondering because I saw Odean and Sunny the next night here in Philly. Odean was great. Sunny was... well...... very erratic.
