  1. The New York Public Library's J.D. Salinger exhibition opens on October 18 and runs through mid-January. I'll be in town for the Jazz Congress about a week before the exhibition ends, so really looking forward to checking it out.
  2. Hadn't checked on this thread in awhile... so half the material in the new Omnivore set does *not* appear on the Galaxy box? I might have to get this after all, in that case.
  3. Hmmm.... I thought it lasted long enough to give a pretty clear indication as to where they'd end up. It's from Rob Friedman's "PitchingNinja" Twitter account, which I just started following at the suggestion of a friend and fellow baseball fan. Four playoff games today! Gotta love it.
  4. We re-aired Our Delight: The Music Of Tadd Dameron with special guest Paul Combs this past week, and it remains archived for online listening.
  5. Agree with you completely! Listening to disc 3 right now, first half of which is Green River. I'd been keeping an eye out for that set for a long time... didn't it get reformatted and released again a few years ago?
  6. Three different Gerrit Cole pitches, all from the same release point
  7. Thanks for letting us know, Chuck. He's definitely going to be missed... I was always grateful for his contributions to the board.
  8. I have a 2001 Sundazed 2-CD compilation of the same name, but it apparently lacks the eight bonus cuts. Continuing to spend a long, happy spell in the music of the 1960s/early 1970s with this set, which I managed to snag off Discogs for $19 in like-new condition. Listened to disc 2 yesterday, moving on to disc 3 today... skipping the pre-CCR material on disc 1 for now, but I'll definitely check it out after I've made my way through the rest of the collection:
  9. Nearly through disc 1 and loving it! Thanks for the encouragement.
  10. Well, I don't see anybody beating the Astros anyway, though I'm obviously hoping that the Yankees do if they get past the Twins and the Astros do indeed knock off the Rays. Best scenario for NY would probably be the Rays somehow upending the Astros, as the Yankees actually had a winning record against Tampa Bay this season. They did not against the Astros and the A's. I *think* we'll nose it out against the Twins, but the whole "Yankees have dominated them" narrative makes me really anxious. And it's a 5-game series. NY better get it in gear after that fizzled-out ending of a season.
  11. 👍 Right now:
  12. Via Jeff Passan, the pitching matchups for the first three games of the Rays-Astros ALDS... wowza!
  13. Pulled out Baby Face Willette's Face To Face to play on the air this afternoon and found myself feeling nostalgic for both the Connoisseur and RVG reissue series. There always used to be a buzz of excitement whenever the next round of titles was announced.
  14. Starting this one when I get home from work tonight:
  15. Starting a revisitation of the Jam's box set with disc 1 (which includes In The City and This Is The Modern World):
  16. Nate Chinen’s review for Pitchfork: John Coltrane’s Blue World
  17. Just won a like-new copy of the L.A. Nuggets box on eBay this afternoon for $41. Can't wait to hear it! I really enjoyed the San Francisco one.
  18. Yankees looked terrible this past week--I really think it's a tossup between them and the Twins. Will be extremely interested to see how either the A's or the Rays fare against the Astros. Obviously the odds are very much in favor of Houston (the team I'd bet on to win it all), but I think both WC teams could make it a competitive series.
  19. Already on my wish-list! Hoping to find the 2003 Charly version that adds 10 songs to the original.
  20. Thanks so much for sharing, Chewy--about as deep a dive into Baby Face Willette as we're ever likely to get.
  21. There’s a more recent and evidently more expansive 2-CD set of Yardbirds BBC sessions that’s come out, but I couldn’t pass up the used $6 copy of the single CD that I came across at Landlocked. And yeah, it’s an excellent compilation! I’m on another mid-1960s rock binge lately, so the Yardbirds are popping up a lot in my listening, sometimes as a clear influence on other, lesser-known bands of that era.
  22. That's an excellent collection!
  23. Mjzee beat me to it, but I gotta post anyway... Beverly Bivens!
