Does anybody else remember the advice that running a green marker around the rim of the CD would enhance its playing quality and/or ensure its longevity? I never did this, but I could almost swear said advice was printed in the notes for some CDs that I saw early on. First CD I bought was in late 1992, GRP's 3-CD Complete Count Basie On Decca, because I had just gotten hooked on Basie--in particular, his late-1930s material--and that was the easiest way to acquire a big chunk of it all at once.

The Dodgers look seriously over-matched--at least Houston and New York (the only two teams I thought really had any chance of possibly stopping the Sox) each managed to swipe one game at Fenway before getting drubbed at home. Dan, I thought I read a couple of days ago that Kimbrel may have been tipping his pitches recently? If so, Boston figured it out and fixed it a lot quicker than the bright lights of the Yankees coaching team did with Severino (not to say that was his only problem in the second half of the season, but apparently it was there all along).

279 feet down the leftfield line—am I reading that right? And I know it was a hell of a long way to centerfield. Last night’s WS battle-of-aces was a bit of a bust, with Sale and Kershaw both being lifted after 4.0 innings, but Boston still found a way to win, as they nearly always seem to do. Once again their much-maligned bullpen did a better job than that of their opponent’s, though I was surprised to see Eovaldi being used as an 8th-inning bridge with a four-run lead. Is he slated to start game 3 or game 4? One inning probably doesn’t matter. Here’s another query: if Boston were to win the series without losing a game at L.A., would they become the first team in post-1994 playoff history to win it all without once losing on the road? (Even the 1998 Yankees, who went 11-2 in the postseason, lost one game on the road—game 3 of the 1998 ALCS in Cleveland. Boston so far is 5-0 on the road, now 3-2 at home.)

Would love to pick this one up if there's ever a CD version released.

If Boston holds onto this lead in the bottom of the 9th, they’ll finish the American League portion of the postseason 5-0 on the road. That would be truly remarkable, and certainly indicative of a World Series champion caliber team.

A revisitation:

I think it's a good gamble for Cora to go with David Price tonight. If the Astros manage to hold on, you've got game 6 with Sale starting and a potential game 7 with Eovaldi on the mound back at Fenway. Hard for me to see Houston being able to take three in a row under those circumstances. And once again, Jackie Bradley Jr. is an offensive hero, and once again the Boston bullpen narrative is completely upended--the bridge to Kimbrel does pretty well, and then Kimbrel nearly blows it. If Bregman's liner gets past Benintendi last night in the bottom of the 9th, the game is tied and possibly even won for Houston.

I'll second the plug for Mother Nature's Son. I just used "Back In The USSR" from that for a Night Lights 1968 show, and also tapped "Dear Prudence" for an introductory music bed. My copy is a CD-R that I made off the station's old vinyl version, so I might have to nab this reissue as well.

I'd honestly rather see the Yankees pursue Harper than Machado, even if Machado takes care of an immediate problem with Didi being out for at least half of 2019. We have plenty of right-handed hitting as it is, and while Harper rubs me the wrong way sometimes too, he doesn't bring nearly the baggage that Machado apparently would--and he's got the short fence in right to swing for as well. But I'm not sure where we'd put Harper, unless we tried him at first base (his stated willingness to play that position this summer was seen by some as a telegraph to the Yankees, who were going through their Greg Bird struggles at the time), or traded Aaron Hicks and put Harper in center. I'm guessing that we won't pick up Gardner's option and that Stanton will see more time in LF next year. More importantly, I think we need to pursue signing Patrick Corbin and possibly trying to lure Nathan Eovaldi back to NY as well. OTOH Boone's entire coaching staff is coming back, which makes me less than optimistic that we'll be anything other than a super-talented under-achieving team again in 2019. I'm really enjoying the NLCS, by the way, what I've managed to catch of it. On the AL side it's definitely a backs-to-the-wall moment for Houston--they do not want to go down 3-1 to the Sox with two out of three possible games left at Fenway. Sounds like there's a decent chance that Chris Sale will start game 5.

I recently purchased a box-set of British films on Blu-Ray that are not available in a region 1 format and am looking to buy a multi-region Blu-Ray/DVD player. Anybody here have any recommendations? I'm eyeballing this Sony model, though it's apparently not, in its elemental form, a multi-region player--for a $40 "upgrade" you get multi-region capability. (Does the seller go in and hack it to make it multi-region? I'm less than knowledgeable about how such things work.) Mods, feel free to move this to non-music miscellaneous if that seems like a more appropriate forum, since this topic doesn't really deal with audio issues. The British film box-set, by the way, looks to be a beaut, and comes with a nice booklet of essays, as well as tons of extras on the discs themselves: Woodfall:  A Revolution in British Cinema
