Whatever happens with the Yanks this year, I think this has been the most fun team to watch since the 1996-2001 glory days... they finally seem to have some chemistry again. Watching Matsui do the helmet-flip last night after his walk-off home run (the 9th time they've won on a walk-off, already equaling last year's total...of course, some of that due, no doubt, to the new "Air Yankee" stadium effect), I thought, "Man, they actually look like they're having fun out there." Not just the normal end-of-game jubilation, but a sense that they're actually a team, and not just a bunch of guys that the Boss paid to play.

Up with changes.

I've got last year's reissue but am trying to get a hold of the liner notes that Zorn wrote for the first edition.

Not a guy, but I like Norah Jones' version. I think Dee Dee Bridgewater recorded one, but I haven't heard it.

Per Chas' prior comment: Brew Moore: the Kerouac Connection Picked this one up in Indpls this afternoon at Luna Music on Massachusetts Avenue. Don't know if it's "complete" early Brew, but it does gather some of the Savoy sides + a fair # of appearances with Machito. It's Volume 2 in Giant Steps/Cherry Red's "Gray Boys" series (Allen Eager was V. 1):

The version I saw was the 1970s one--ironically enough, the one episode I remember distinctly is the Alamo...and it's the one on YouTube! (Intro/outro only, unfortunately). EDIT: I now also remember the Amelia Earhart episode to which one of the YouTube commenters alludes.

Working on the annual Afterglow autumn-songs show right now, and finding Dave Brubeck's version of "September Song" (from the 2007 CD INDIAN SUMMER) very moving, invested with a measured poignancy.

Very good booklet. I'd say that all of the anthologies that Fantasy put out in the 1990s are worth picking up, if you can find them at affordable prices...here's a brief write-up I did on the West Coast jazz set.

No, I wouldn't spend $40.00 on it. Buy it from a marketplace seller on Amazon.com. Newbury Comics is selling a new one there for $15.99 as of this posting. Agreed--got mine through Newbury a couple of months ago for that price & it was definitely worth it.
