On the final out in Halladay's no-hitter, it looked like the bat interfered slightly with the catcher's attempt to pick up the ball and throw to first. The umpire let the play unfold, but would he have called batter interference if Ruiz had fumbled around trying to pick up the ball after it had been touched by the bat, which had clearly been tossed into the field of play, and been unable to get the out at first?

From Mosaic's "Duke Ellington: The Complete 1936 - 1940 Variety, Vocalion and Okeh Small Group Sessions" A fairly straightforward, slow-tempo blues with Cootie Williams doing the slightly exaggerated vocals. He takes a little bit of an appropriately understated solo near the end. Then it's done. Nice tune, but not a standout in this collection.

I get the no streaming on company computers policy, but why would a company delineate between manufactured and home-spun CDs? Are they concerned about some kind of virus being planted from the disc? And if they're going to allow listening, why no iPods?

At the risk of being turfed out of the Ellington-a-thon on the first track, I don't have any Ellington recordings of 'East St. Louis Toodle-oo.' Remedied that by ordering Early Ellington: The Complete Brunswick Recordings. Sadly, it won't arrive before the thread moves on. Nonetheless, delighted to have it speeding my way as we speak.

Vick, yes. Dynamic player. Outside the lines, another story. Really liked Falcons QB Matt Ryan against the Saints. His numbers were just OK, but he made some great throws and just had a calmness about him. ... at New Orleans, and beat the champs, to get division win! Falcons have potential, especially in that division where it's just them and the Saints. Can't get too excited about the Jets yet. Miami hasn't done much (wins over Bills, Vikes), so scratching out a win against the Dolphins might not be all that big a deal. (I know. Division rivals. Still.) Steelers! How good will they be when Roethlisberger gets back? 49ers .... Rams ....

Thank you for mentioning this. I guess I should have known about it, but did not. Will make a point of viewing it. On Burns, I haven't seen the documentary but do have the over-sized book, which I enjoy as a coffee-table type thing to flip through, but certainly don't regard as the gospel.
