  1. Don't have this one but I won a Miles Davis promo watch a few years back.
  2. I can hardly remember it, but I'm sure it left a positive impression. One to see again.
  3. I'm not too fond of this one, it must be those synths, I've never been happy with electronic keyboards.
  4. Nothing on Amazon UK still.
  5. Like Clunky I use my minidisc (I have both fullsize and a portable but both are budget items) for recording from the radio. The beauty of the minidisc is the editing facilities and their ease of use. I'm not sure I'd recommend minidisc for any other purpose.
  6. Absolutely right imo.
  7. Gave my 1972(?) vinyl a spin over the weekend. Although there is some nice music here big band Mingus is not for me. Something of Mingus' fire and spirit seems missing, especially in these heavily textured arrangements. Give me the early Atlantics and the Columbia sides anytime.
  8. I bought the FS RCA reissue of Hal McKusick 'Jazz Workshop' - one of my Treasure Island album - and was terribly disappointed with the sound. Very flat. It does not compare with the sound on the original LP, or the French RCA LP reissue of years ago. Sorry to hear that Brownie. I guess it's a case of buyer beware. I think I'll be taking a chance on these before too long though.
  9. I've not managed to hear this one yet but I've seen Tony Kofi in a number of situations from the Andrew Hill big band to his own quartet. He always makes a good impression. I'm looking forward to catching this group live. I'm sorry I missed their run through of the complete Monk compositions at last years London Jazz Festival. That must have been quite an event.
  10. Another BNBB refugee.
  11. Thanks P.D. Looks like Carribean Suite and Straight Up will go on the wants list.
  12. Thanks Jim, I don't believe Dreams ever got a release on this side of the pond. The Compost albums were lucky finds.
  13. True, Compost is pretty rocky. Dejohnette spends more time at the keyboards than at the drums. There is plenty of varied percussion. But it's still attractive. I've never heard Dreams. Not even seen the album(s?).
  14. Nice to see these coming out. Presumably these are in the Fresh Sounds RCA series. I don't have any but I've not heard any bad comments about the sound or production of their previous issues. The Vick's look interesting but I'm a tad wary of them, the number of tracks suggest that they are rather short and, I imagine, don't give a lot of room for solos of any length. A shame as there are some fine players here. More comments would be useful.
  15. I'm glad I stepped in about three months ago. Very nice set.
  16. Happy sounding stuff, entertaining, fun, but probably not essential unless you are especially keen on the artists involved. But I like them.
  17. Today, Short Rogers "Blues Express"
  18. A little off thread but I've just discovered Shorty Courts The Count. I can't believe I've passed this one by so often. Lovely set, more enjoyable than Blue Express imo.
  19. I'm sticking with jewel cases. If I buy from Cadence I have the cds shipped in their "jewel box begones" but I don't bother to change them.
  20. Thanks for the news Alfred, nothing on Amazon UK yet though.
  21. Ten Mosaics (soon to be eleven) and six selects. I disposed of four Mosaic sets along the way to save on space when cds came out.
  22. Many happy returns.
  23. I've not played this for a while but I recall I rather like their take on Cherokee.
  24. I've not heard this one yet but Motian is as much a decorator as driver. He seems to have his own sense of time.
  25. I don't know but I feel that he didn't treat the guys like shit.
