  1. Definitely a wise move Dmitry.
  2. I saw Viklicky in London some time ago, a very pleasing set with Juraj Bartos on trumpet. Hungarian Mihaly Dresch (sax, cimbalom etc) leads a tasty folk influenced group.
  3. I'm sorry to hear this news. CODA have been running a lengthy interview with him. Part one was published late last year. Part two appears in the May/June issue. Part three is still to come.
  4. A timely reminder. I've not spun these for a while. They definitely deserve a play.
  5. Have a very happy birthday Chuck, and very many more.

    Ken Vandermark

Nice one Gary, maybe mine will turn up as well.
  7. John Scofield; EnRoute
  8. Already mentioned Erica Lindsey, fine sax work on cd with Baikida Carroll and under her own name on Candid. Sarah Morrow, trombonist, seen in the UK playing spendidly with David Murray. Also has a couple of cds out with her own groups.

    Elvin is dead

RIP Mr Jones. Thank you for everything.
  10. My copy is cactus free.
  11. Happy birthday and many happy returns. Have a great day.
  12. Despite being a veteran jazz fan I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t “discover” Martial Solal until about six years ago and apart from the RCA Newport cd I'm still not familiar with his Vogue recordings. I must be missing a lot!! This is a very fine cd. Solal fragments and dissects the standard tunes here but still treats them with respect frequently returning to the melodies during his improvisations. This treatment given to Monk’s “Midnight” makes for an especially refreshing version of the piece. Marc Johnson fits in beautifully in more than just an accompanying role. Motian too is just right making this a real trio date. Good as this cd is it doesn’t quite compare to Solal’s Village Vanguard cd on Blue Note which is absolutely stunning.
  13. Happy birthday Larry, you have just caught up with me. Have a great day.
  14. An afterthought, as Tal Farlow has been relatively badly served by reissue programmes maybe he'll make a better candidate after the Mosaic box is released
  15. Tal Farlow, George Russell are both fine with me.
  16. Good choice Clunky. I have this one. Sorry, Sidewinder I don't have the Kenny Wheeler disc.
  17. The cover looks like it reproduces a portrait in oils by Les Hawks.
  18. Jazz Crusaders; Lighthouse '68
  19. I have the Concord LP. I will try to scan it if it will fit on my scanner. My recollection is that there is not much to the cover. I have the JAZZZ issue. It's a great album, one of my desert island discs. If need be I can photograph the cover but don't expect top quality. PM me if I can help.
  20. Welcome Frank, hopefully you'll visit again.
  21. This is a label to watch. Gerry Hemingway's superb "Devils Paradise" was my introduction to it. The new Gonzalez looks like being an essential buy. More of the same please Clean Feed.
  22. Entertaining but not essential.
  23. My vinyl is on Inner City. If you are interested in Tristano you'll want this.
  24. Better today, no rain but a hint of sea mist, mid 50s F.
