New Vacation - Euro river cruise.
JohnS replied to Chuck Nessa's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Have a good trip. I'm sure you will, I loved my one river cruise. The slow pace was just right for us. -
Sad news. I have one special memory of Sir Charles - I attended a rehearsal of a group featuring Thompson at a west London theatre and sat immediately behind him.. I was amazed that while accompanying the band he was reading a coffee table size book on golf strokes. His playing was immaculate. I have no recollection of the rest of the band. Sad news. Mine is the original US pressing.

Be good to have the final Murray set.

Apparently so,but I have no recollection of the concert apart from Coleman's trio and the wind quintet.. Fairfield Hall was a regular venue for jazz back then and an easy drive for me from north Kent. Played earlier UK CBS issue. Super session. Not played in a while, somewhat lacklustre compared with Hamp's best on the label.

I was at this concert. Totally amazing. Despite it being fifty years ago I can still recall the thrill I felt on hearing Ornette. My box is signed by Coleman and Izenson (courtesy of a friend who interviewed Coleman). I did get Chales Moffett to sign the programme on the night but unfortunately i no longer have it.

I hope I say often.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
JohnS replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Agreed Bill, Allison and Dave Cliff were great together. Her current band with Nat Steele is okay, Neale still finds some interesting tunes you don't hear elsewhere but it doesn't work for me like the quartet with Cliff. -
Love Byrd's playing here.

White label promo.

I can't think why I didn't buy this record. Maybe I wasn't that impressed by the bands live show. I probably shouldn't have overlooked it.
-
Thanks Adrian, it must have been this line up that I saw. I really have no recollection of Garrett and Charles. That's a bit sad.
-
Was this recorded in the UK? I saw the Jazz Doctors in London, I recall the white coats but that's about all.
-
I snapped one of these up before it was withdrawn.

Happy Birthday Flurin

I doubt if many board members will be able to get to this but there may be someone in the south of England who can get along. This month we're delighted to invite you to a free lunchtime concert with a jazz legend! Saxophonist Evan Parker performs at Turner Sims on Tuesday 19 April at 12pm as part of the Europe Jazz Network's Take The Green Train tour. The British jazz saxophone revolutionary transformed the language and techniques of the instrument in the late 1960s and has since become one of the most admired and influential saxophone improvisers on the planet. This one hour solo concert is part of a European tour organised in liaison with the Europe Jazz Network’s Take the Green Train initiative, whereby Evan and tour producer / writer Graham McKenzie are undertaking the whole tour by train. Turner Sims has been a part of the European Jazz Network since 2009. FREE event – no tickets required

Smartypants: the fart-filtering future of underwear

I saw the add for these reading Cosmopolitan (yes) in the dentist's waiting room. -
A European river cruise was about the most relaxing holiday I've ever had. Paced just about right for seniors. Incidentally we'll be cruising to Iceland in May.
