  1. I've got a smattering of Adams with various groups but not by the Pullen/Adams Quartet. Phalanx, and especially two of his Blue Notes, Nightingale and America often find their way onto my cd player.
  2. Thanks for the heads up. One to get.
  3. Nothing wrong with the Solal. It's a studio recording IRC. I don't know if the dubbed applause has been removed.
  4. Prompted by a mention of John Manning in another topic
  5. I still have my Goody pressing of Freedom and Unity bought back in the day.
  6. I've given up looking these days. Okay, age is part of it but there seems very little to attract me I'm sorry to say.
  7. NIce buy, especially if the price was right.
  8. Bill Evans - Turn Out The Stars. Disc 1 and 2.
  9. I was there Bob. Thanks to Peter Clayton probably. I don't have mch if any recollection of the music but I o recall the cathedral was decorated with Rosemary.

    Vocalion

I knew Peter Clayton well, accompanying him to many gigs, interviews and the odd BBC recording.. With JRR he chose the records played himself and tried hard to get a good balance of material. He always endeavoured to do the programme live so he could report on deaths etc. I agree JRR has not been quite the same since. He was a great broadcaster and all round journalist but never regarded himself as an expert on jazz.
  11. Totally agree. I don't have the Mosaic box but I've had the Salvador discs since they first came out. Fine stuff.
  12. Kofi is an impressive saxophonist. A sometime member of the World Saxophone Quartet. I've only seen him once with his quartet and once with David Murray's Big Band. Nowhere near enough.
  13. As a Mulligan fan I'm sorry to say that I've never been able to enthuse about this one.
  14. I'd go along with that.
  15. A fun Google doodle yesterday.
  16. Sad news Always an enjoyable presence on record. I did see him live two or three times most memorably with Don Cherry.
  17. Thanks for the link to the Jazz Review. I bought several copies back in the day. IMO the best Jazz Mag ever.

    Gary Thomas

I saw Thomas along with Benny Maupin in 1993 in Jack Dejohnette's quintet. Both saxophonists generated a lot of energy but as I recall neither made a very big impression on me.
  19. Nothing to add except to say the Griffith does a great job on Looking Ahead. A terrifically exciting record.
  20. Discs 1-4 over the last two days all from the two August 1984 dates. I like the casual loose feel of the orchestra.
  21. Happy Birthday Jon
  22. There are about twelve pieces not previously issued. looking at the booklet I'd guess there is about 3 hours of additional music. The set was lucky find at Tower Records in London.
  23. Sad new, Our music could do with a few more like him. I cannot recall ever going to the bookshop. I think on one occasion I tried but found it closed.
